Media Go update error: 8004d006

I just upgraded Media Go from 1.3 to 1.4, which went okay. Tthen it downloaded an update for the Media Go Video Playback Engine. But this won't install - it goes through the motions, then removes it, and gives error code 8004d006.

I've uninstalled and re-installed Media Go with the new 1.4 release, and still have the same problem. I've also shut down my antivirus and all anti-malware software in case these were causing issues, but it made no difference.

Anyone else experienced this, or know of a solution?

Also, is this update simply to let you watch rented movies on your PC? If so, then I'm not that fussed, as I don't see me ever doing that.

I believe that is the function yes.

Out of interest, what version of Windows are you running?

I had a similar issue, I install media go 1.4 but the Video Playback Engine gets to 48-60% downloaded then fails.

I removed my library(i didn't have many, only had to move autobackup and PSP from my "media go" folder to my desktop)from media go 1.4 and then uninstalled it
Then found a 1.3 download....installed.....then upgraded to 1.4 and the video playback engine(from inside 1.3)
Moved my files back into the media go folder.....

This is on XP HOME BTW

Re: Media Go update error: 8004d006

I'll try removing my library, un-installing and re-installing.

It'll be a pain, as I have my entire music collection in there (11GB, 2832 files), especially if it still doesn't work! But I suppose it's worth a try.

Well what do you know... it worked!

I copied the Media Go folder from c:\[myusername]\Documents to my desktop and deleted the original, then uninstalled Media Go, re-installed Media Go (I went straight for the 1.4 install) and it upgraded the Video Playback Engine just fine. Copied the Media Go folder from the desktop back to its original location, and everything seems to be working.

Problem solved, it seems. Thanks for the input, BlueRaven!

Re: Media Go update error: 8004d006

Hey all,

Although some of you appear to have solved this problem, I've also got a solution from our customer services team here;

"
1) Make sure to de-activate the PC via the store's Account feature. If the PC has never been activated for PC Playback, move to step 2
2) Uninstall Media Go
3) Uninstall Media Go Video Playback Engine
4) Uninstall PlayStation Store
5) Reinstall Media Go, try to access the store, and allow the Media Go Video Playback Engine to update."

If anyone tries this out, let me know how it goes!

What happens to the library when you do the above?

When I uninstalled and reinstalled it, my library was untouched. I expected to have to rebuild it, but didn't.
