Re: PSP Instructions: Updating and USB Mode

Reply to 113Ben:

It may be a simple case of changing USB cable... that happened to me, i swapped cable and it worked fine.

Reply to Take-Away:
If u have wireless on the PS3, the PSP can download the latest update via wireless:
(ALL actions to be done on the PSP System)

1) Go to Settings (Far right on the XMB )
2) Go to Network Update (Top)
3) If you already have a WLAN point connected to PSP preceed to part 5). If not, carry on:
4) Choose "New Connection", then scan, which should pick up your wireless. Then, if you know the information, type in the WEP/WAP Key (If have one) and the I.P Address, or you can just choose Easy mode and it will scan for the information.
5) Choose the connection and press "X".
6) It should say "Newer Firmware Found", choose yes to download.
7) Let the download commence (DO NOT WORRY, CONNECTION LOSS WILL NOT BRICK PSP!)
8) Once downloaded, choose update now or later. If later, go to Game (on XMB) > Memory Stick (bottom option) to start update at will.
9) Agree to the terms and conditions, and proceed with the update.
10) Let the update do itself, once finished it will say you need to reset console.
11) Console will reset itself, then go to Game > Memory Stick and delete the update file, as you will no longer have any use of it.
12) This should be successful, if not, post a reply and we will try and figure out your problem.

NOTES ON WIRELESS UPDATE:
1) Connection loss whilst downloading WILL NOT brick the PSP. The download will halt at whatever % and wait a few moments to try and regain connection. If it cannot regain connection, you will just have to start over again, but if it can, it will just carry on as normal.
2) It is recommended you have the AC ADAPTER (Charger) plugged in whilst updating, because if the battery dies, you have a back-up source of power. If you have a power cut and the battery dies, then you must be very unlucky.
3) Cancellation of update at any point in any way, i.e. Battery taken out, power switch flicked off, Press "O" (dont know if you can press O, but no matter) WILL probably brick the PSP, so i recommend you just leave it.

Hope this helps

Re: PSP Instructions: Updating and USB Mode

I've already got 3.90. It's ever since I've updated it I've been unable to put it into usb mode, I would like to use the store on my PC without having to a friends house and use his PS3.

Thanks

Re: PSP Instructions: Updating and USB Mode

Try:
Different USB Cable.
1st post on USB Connection
Tyrants method (May also work for XP...)
Put memory stick into a different PSP to get the games, then put the memory stick into your psp.
Buy a new or 2nd hand PSP, going relatively cheap now the Slim and Light are out,

these are the only things i can think of... sorry

Re: PSP Instructions: Updating and USB Mode

I think that I'll try a new cable, It seems the most likely option to work.

Thanks for all of your help,

Re: PSP Instructions: Updating and USB Mode

u dont need to open the file. if u are on Windows (this i no is for XP and may work with Vista), just click the file so it is highlighted, and on the task bar on the left should be "Move To..." or "Copy To..."
Another way is to download the file straight to the Update folder within the PSP or even on laptop and then copy that entire folder to the PSP.

Hope this helps

Re: PSP Instructions: Updating and USB Mode HELP!?!

Hey I'm pretty much a n00b when it comes to gadgets and I recently bought a PS3 and was totally looking forward to the PSP/PS3 remote play but everytime i try to update the latest firmware (3.90) and try and load it up it says Game cannot be started (DADADADADA) whatever that means?! Now ive tried scouring the internet to see whats up and it seems to be you only get this message if you've hacked your PSP or something. Now No way have I done this, took me long enough to figure how to put a new wallpaper on the thing let alone start downloading all these wonderful illegal programs on it so what have I done? I got it from Japan so maybe thats whats up im not sure, but every other update ive done works fine just this latest one. I thought maybe i could have accidentaly downloaded some illeagal thing so I went about trying to downgrade my PSP somehow but got scared by all the techno mumbo jumbo that was accompanied by the guide. Can anyone out there help me try and sort out whats wrong with my PSP?! Much appreaciated!
