PSP Problem. :(

Hello everyone.

I bought a secondhand PSP 2000 from Ebay and it arrived today. However, it has custom software (this wasn't mentioned in the listing) and I want to know how to get rid of it as I want my PSP to have legit software on it!

I've been trying to go into Playstation Store but it says that an update is required.

However, I go to system update and it says my PSP is up-to-date.

The PSP didn't come with a memory stick or USB cable so I'm a bit stuck.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Re: PSP Problem. :(

Normally I wouldn't help as we're not meant to discuss CFW, but as you want rid of it...

If you check the version number and it ends in m-33 or similar. Turn the PSP completely off (Hold the power slider in the up position till it turns off).

Now hold "R" and turn it on and the custom bootloader should appear. In there should be an option. Set the m-33 updater to disabled. Then retry the update process when you reboot the console :smileywink:

Re: PSP Problem. :(

Hello and thank you for your reply. :smileyhappy:

I've gone into the recovery console and under Use M33 Network Update it says "not yet" with no option to change it. :smileysad:

hmmm. When you go to the System information menu on the PSP and see what firmware it has, what number does it give you?

You may well end up having to update to a higher CFW to remove it :smileysad:

Re: PSP Problem. :(

it says 5.50 GEN-D2.

I might have to update the CFW? Noooooooooooooooo!

I wouldn't have bought it if I had known it had CFW. I was avoiding them for reasons like this!

I'm afraid this is why people sell them on. They put a load of crap on them and then realise it's useless to them.

I'll look for the stuff you need to downgrade it, however I'll Private Message it as it could be used to install CFW and that'd be bad if people came here for it.

Re: PSP Problem. :(

I've sent you the PM containing the material you need to remove the firmware. Let me know when you're done so that I can delete the update data from my storage :smileyhappy:

Re: PSP Problem. :(

Thank you so much.

I assume that I'll need a memory stick to be able to do it? I've ordered one but it won't be here for a couple of days and I don't have a USB cable (I've ordered one of those too!).

Re: PSP Problem. :(

You'll need a memory stick. If you format it using the PSP and go to: /PSP/GAME/UPDATE/ and place the update data there, then you should be ready to go.

Have you taken a copy of that data, as I can't leave it up in case I get into trouble as I use that for college work too?
