personally though i think another revision of the current PSP will be released maybe a PSP Go with a UMD Drive instead of the 16GB flash drive or even a version of the PSP Go with a bigger flash drive not no way is a PSP 2 getting released Sony are no good at keeping secrets as they usually leak and there is nothing as of yet.

Re: Why I think Sony will announce the PSP2 at E3!

Yeah that would be my guess too if i had to make one, infact there has been some high up info alluding to the development of a PSP Phone/Game device along with a possible tablet to rival the ipad where you can play PSP games along with many other software apps hopefully upscalled to HD)

Whether this will be revealed at E3 IM not sure, as someone has already stated, you usually get leaks by now for new hardware announcement (thinking of the GO/PS3 Slim) But you never know maybe Sony have something so big to announce they have finally seen the need to ensure those leaks are plugged - who knows.

Re: Why I think Sony will announce the PSP2 at E3!

There is not going to be a PSP2 announced anytime soon, if ever. Sony work on a 10 year scheme for pretty much all of their technology now, and have done since the PS2. That means that the PSP franchise is intended to last at least 10 years, and unlike the console market if they were to release a PSP2 it would obviously kill off the market for the PSP and prevent it from completing its projected 10 year life span of the brand.

That means if there is ever likely to be a PSP2, I would be very surprised to see it released anytime before 2015 - and that means any official announcement of it is unlikely to appear until at least 2012.

The entire basis of the argument in that blog was that "the PSPgo failed to sell and Sony have to crush the DS3d" and here is where the whole thing falls down. Sony stated before they even began to sell the PSPgo that it was in no way intended to be a replacement for the PSP - that means there is no sale target for it to achieve, since it is just being marketed as the "delux PSP", therefore in no way has the PSPgo failed to sell - quite the opposite in fact. As for attempting to take on the Nintendo DS3d or 3DS or whatever they're calling it, why? Sony have made absolutely no effort to challenge any previous DS before simply because they both hold two entirely different niches of the gaming market - so why should they suddenly be concerned now?

Then there is the mention of Microsoft releasing a handheld - highly unlikely to happen.

That blog is just a culmination of all of the different hundreds of rumours that have circulated since 2005, its nothing new and it won't come true anytime soon.

By the way, in regards to Sony releasing a PSPgo with a UMD drive - I wish people would stop saying that. The PSPgo's size means a UMD drive is simply physicaly not possible. If you added a UMD drive to it, it would become the size of a standard PSP and would therefore defeat the purpose of making it in the first place. If there is ever going to be anything UMD-related for the PSPgo it will be an external UMD drive - but that is also highly unlikely since it then puts the PSPgo in direct competition with the PSP.

As it stands, I highly doubt that there will be any new PSPgo model anytime soon. Likewise I highly doubt that there will be any newer model of standard PSP either as, with maybe the exception of the PSP3000 screen not being as good as previous models, there isn't really anything they can add to the PSP brand without changing the console to the point where it becomes a PSP2. Basicaly any PSP game has to be compatible across the entire range of PSP's - that means if they added a second analogue stick, for example, no new game could use it as it would make the game unplayable on previous models. So basicaly all they can do to PSP's and PSPgo's is fiddle with things like weight, size, screen quality and perhaps HDD size on the go.

So will there be any new PSP model announced at E3 this year? Very unlikely.

E3 for Sony this year will be geared almost exclusively toward the launch of the Move controller as that is the next big thing, and Sony have got to ensure that it out-sells the 360's (rather awful) Natal. Expect the PSP to get barely any screen time this year.

Re: Why I think Sony will announce the PSP2 at E3!

Unlikely. its either gonna be at gamescom, tgs or E3 next year

They have a bunch of big name PSP games comming out soon, it would be stupid of sony to advertize thoes games, then announce a PSP2

Re: Why I think Sony will announce the PSP2 at E3!

I so agree about the iphone part. Which is why i call the fanboys lemmings. And the chance of the psp2 being real is like america translating anime properly. Lol. Maybe sony is working on a new psp, but the chance of it being release this year or even the next is unlikely.

Re: Why I think Sony will announce the PSP2 at E3!

As I said above, this year's E3 for Sony will be 99.9% geared toward the Move controller.

They're planning to launch Move in November, so E3 is obviously Sony's biggest oppatunity to fully show it off along with the first batch of games that will be available for it. We've seen the Move in a tech demo at E3 last year, and Sony invited the media to have a play with a fully functional version (but with in-complete software) last month, so E3 will likely be the first full demo where not only will it be available for people to play with at the booths, but there will likely be a full demo on stage with a collection of actual games.

Remember that Sony are pinning an awful lot on the success of the Move controller, just as Microsoft are pinning a lot on Natal, so Sony are obviously going to be devoting an awful lot of time between now and November in advertising and showing off the Move in an attempt to not only defeat Natal before its launched but also to show that the Move controller can, at the very least, do exactly what the Wii can do only with better graphics.

Also, there is a new 3rd party tilt device that has been released for the PSP 1-3k, which sounds quite cool, so I would not be surprised if Sony have an announcement on their own tilt hardware for the PSP some time soon.

As for Natal - seriously? The PS2 was doing the whole "waving at the screen" thing 5 years ago and the gaming community showed that they clearly were not interested in doing it because they wanted something physical in their hands to press - yet Microsoft are acting as if its a totaly new concept and are telling everyone how the next gen gamer wants to get rid of the gamepad - funny, seems to me that the gamer wants the total opposite. If it wasn't for all the millions of 360 fanboys that will go out and waste their money on Natal the second its launched, it would flop - and chances are even after its made its initial fanboy sales, it will still flop.
