connection to my ps3 trubble

I am trying to connect my psp (the 1st model that came out) to my ps3 I have done all the right steps and I get a message on my psp saying (A connection error has occurred. the connection to the access point timed out. ) and then it has the connection name as being my ps3 and a SSID #. what do i do?

You cannot, generally, connect the PSP wirelessly to the PS3, unless its via the Remote Play. is that what you're trying to do?

Yes I am trying to use the remote play. I went through the who set up proposed and it keeps giving me the above message when I go to connect

 

Any idea what to do?
