hi there, i have a SCPH-1002.
the known faults with this model is laser frying, and also the cogs for the laser mechanism wearing out. the reason the cogs wear out is because on this model they are plastic.
but because of the plastic cogs, this model is a lot quieter than the later models with metal cogs.
its a brilliant machine. i have a SCPH-9002 model and i compared laser mechanism noise and the SCPH-1002 won by miles. i also hooked them both up to my stereo system and played a good quality music cd wth plenty of instrumental parts in and i have to say you can tell a real difference between the 1002 and my 9002. the 1002 was far more clear and rich in sound.
i dont use myy 1002. its sat in 9002's box stored away as i bougt it for collection not for use.
i got it on ebay at a steal price of £10 with an original non dualshock non analog controller and 5 games. only dissapointment was that the parallel port cover is missing and i cannot find a replacememnt.
