PS2 Playing in slow motion on F1 pages that have a commentary running

When playing F1 discs, as soon as there is any commentary the speech and the action slows down.

 

Interestingly, when playing the time trial or practice section where there is no commentary, everything plays at normal speed.

 

any ideas?

Sounds like scratched discs or a dying laser. I have 3 F1 games (2003, 2005 and 2006) and they all work fine.
