I thought we could use a thread to confirm what game servers are still up. I know all of the Sony central station handle servers are off and most of EA's. 

Most of the powered by Gamespy servers are on with varying activity. 

Call of Duty Finest Hour 

Call of Duty The Big Red One 

Call of Duty 3

All have a steady amount of regular players Call of Duty 3 being the busiest. 

Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2. 

Servers still up numbers are very low number 2 still grabs some players. 

Medal of Honor European Assault servers i think are still on i will try to confirm my brother has my copy at the minute. The servers haven't been listed in EA's server shutdown schedule list. 

Conflict Global Storm (I used love that series Desert Storm etc) Servers still up found a few playing.

Been trying to play" hardware online arena"  why are all the servers still down after ps3 was shut down ?  i love this old game tried to link two ps2s via the router to play it but no joy,,gonna try a crossover lead next,,,is there a way to create a server using a laptop or something ? there has to be a way to get some of the old games back online,would be cool to do it ,,any tech heads reading ?

Unfortunately, most games require standalone server software.
If you're incredibly lucky, nice and polite, the company may be able to provide you with a LAN version of the client to play with friends. In most cases though you're out of luck

The bit i dont understand is where they sell some games that are stated on the box as being ONLINE GAME ONLY and then they shut the server down and stop you playing it ,,dont they have some sort of legal obligation to keep providing a server for such games ?

Battlefront 2 servers are still up? I tried to jump online for a blast a couple of months back but it kept failing the patch download so I assumed it was offline. Good to hear COD The big red one still has an active server, used to play that a lot. Anyone tried Area51? Used to love that game but I haven't come across a copy of it for ages. Ill be dusting off my slim Ps2 if Area51 is still active and I find it somewhere good times back in the day with my Ps2 online....

Area 51 still alive just tried this morning not many on though. 

Maybe if we can get enough interest maybe organise a meet up via this board?

They can legally terminate the service anytime, however they need to give 30 days notice on their developers/publishers website which to my knowledge all have done at some point.

All i can say is its very sad when they turn off a game that you love to play,,i have a ps3,xbox and 2 ps2s and all i want to play is an old game that has been shut down,sucks :0(

Linking 2 PS2s together like that only works with games that have LAN (Local Area Network) support. Most PS2 games with online modes unfortunately don't have LAN support.

You can only play against computer bots in Hardware: Online Arena now as that game doesn't have LAN support.

XIII was switched off fairly recently unfortunately.

Cold Winter still works.

TOCA Race Driver 3 still works also.

If you want someone to play against at Cold Winter or TOCA:RD3 I run a games night every Tuesday featuring both. Unfortunately there is normally just the 2 of us but it's better than nothing. Cold Winter is played from 7.45pm (UK time) and then at 8.30pm (UK time) we switch to TOCA:RD3 and finish at 9pm.
