Re: What ya been playing?

Been playing loads of Assassins Creed today, did a straight swap at Gamestation for Pro Evo 2008 and DiRT. Good stuff first. The game is incredibly beautiful in every single way. It's up there with Gears of War as one of the best looking games I've ever played. Ever. It's just got that uber high-def look about it that certain games have. The animation is superb, the cities look amazing, it's really detailed. It just looks stunning. It's 'call a parent into the room and show them how good it looks' stunning. Other good stuff, the free-running. It's really, really fun just sprinting across the rooftops. Other than having to hold two buttons to do it it's really easy to pull off. The game does a good job of making you look extremely cool. The cities are huge, every single building has stuff you can grab and swing on. It's pretty fun just to explore. Outside the cities the areas in-between seem pretty decent, not amazing but good enough. Riding the horse feels much better than it does in something like Oblivion. There's also lots of little things I like about it. The tension it builds building up to an assassination, the way you can move your character during the semi cutscenes. It's also has it's own take on GTA's hidden packages which gives you plenty of incentive to explore. Now the bad. I don't have any huge problems with it to be honest but there are some niggles. The combat isn't great in my opinion. The sword play seems more than a little repetitive. Having said that I'm willing to give the game the benefit of the doubt in this regard. The nature of the story means you start off the game with little skills and slowly build them up. Maybe the combat will improve as the game goes on. I think the main problem is going to be repetition. Just from playing the first city I was starting to get a little bored doing the same few tasks over and over. Over the course of a full game helping civilians and climbing view point towers again and again could get really old. Finally, I'm sure everyone knows what Assassins Creed's story is really all about by now. The true nature of the story. Just incase though, if there's anyone that doesn't know what the deal is best not read the rest of this post. _____ Final niggle, the computer ****, total case of overkill. Literally every two seconds there's some crap popping up on the screen distracting you from the world you're in. I don't actually mind that aspect of the story I just wish they'd toned it down a bit when you're playing as Altair. Spoils the presentation ever so slightly.

Re: What ya been playing?

Played some Assassin's Creed and Crysis. AC sseems like it wil be a great game. I have only played about an hour so far. Crysis however is just awesome. I was looking forwrd to it for a long time, but never thought it would be as good as it is. CoD4 is my favourite game this year, but it looks like it has some competition from Crysis.

Re: What ya been playing?

I don't think I'm getting the PS2 back in my room so it's been PC gaming for me. Only really been playing CounterStrike Source and Garry's Mod. On another note, roughly how long is Deus Ex?

Re: What ya been playing?

It sounds like i'll enjoy Assasins Creed all the same, but i'mgoing to wait a little until some of the negativity has been forgotten about because i don't want anything to taint it Been trawling my way through Prey, think i've got 7 levels left which i really can't be bothered with, but i'll finish all the same. Sorry Frey but, it starts off awesome but fast becomes a chore :smileysad: Will try and get it back to you this week.

Did it feel like the moment when Jaws pops out of the water? :smileywink:

Love that movie.

Re: What ya been playing?

No I know what you mean Splidders, the beginning was so awesome that it was hard for the rest of the game to match it. I still really enjoyed it though, looking back I think it'd get an 8, not a 9. Been playing Spyro: The eternal night for DS, for thunderbolt. Worth a 5 out of ten, nothing special or memorable, the enemies make the game so annoying and such a slog at times, but the puzzle aspect is quite nice, as if the level design and platforming sections, let down by a dodgy camera, glitchy graphics and a story that you don't really care for. Shame.

Re: What ya been playing?

*Kaxx* I bought XIII today, awesome game, currently completing my way through the mission in the snow. (Loving the crossbow BTW, gives a nice impact on hit!) It's a bit weird though, the characters look like cartoons, but the environment looks like it would in a normal FPS/Shooter game.. Much <3 to the bank mission, BTW...

Re: What ya been playing?

Err it looks 'wierd' because it is based on a Belgium comic book and therefore the graphics are Cel Shaded. Great game though, even if i never got passed that horrible stealth mission

Re: What ya been playing?

Yeah, I meant to say "Comic Book" instead of "Cartoon", but it slipped my mind.

Re: What ya been playing?

I'm getting bored of Assassin's Creed already :smileysad:

So repetitive, yet I really want to like it, as there are moments which are brilliant, but they aren't enough.
