hi my son got (the now apparently troublesome) GT4 for his ps 2 yesterday, once home with wailing from the room to find not working, only to happy to help dad completes 30 mile round trip to exchange game to find exactly the same fault disc not reading or something of that nature have tried it on both ps2 slimline consoles we have with zero results cleaned the lens as stated by many of you however still getting nothing just the ticking noise of it doing its ting

Exactly the same thing happens to me. I think some PS2 games just plain don't work on the slim. God of War 1 and 2 don't work either

If I remember rightly, the PS2 slim had compatibility problems with dual layer DVD games - which will include GT4 and GOW 1+2.

I'm not sure if the newer models have sorted that out, I hope they did....

I got one of the first slim ps2's, and despite that it eventually broke, gt4 was one of the four games that always worked... in the end it would only play GT4, Bust-A-Bloc, Penny Racers and X-treme express... No DVDs. So GT4 and three of those strange "Blue Disc" games.

Blue discs were probably CDs. GT4 is a DVD.

The PS2 Slim was a failure!

Not sure what model my PS2 slim is but I was playing GT4 recently, and have never had problems before.

I had the same problem. I bought GT4 black label probably 1Year after release brand new and it didnt work. However my dads copy of GT4 brought on release day works fine on my slim. I tried the other GT4 copy on my dads fat PS2(Release day console) and it works. Bugger knows what the problem was.
