Re: The Last of Us

Yeah, I kept expecting a skinny black dude with big wingnut ears to make an appearance... and the scenic bit late in the trailer is very reminiscent of the green, lush apocolypse setting of NY in Enslaved..

Re: The Last of Us

I believe it does look a little like I am legend, but i think once flushed out more it will create it's own world and feel. One thing is certain though, if NDI are doing it. It will be a 1st day collectors Edition purchase...

You're all fanboi's :smileyhappy:

But yeah..colour me excited too.....

Made a few comments in the announcements thread and you know that with ND it will be a very pretty and polished product. I'm very interested to see how it plays....perspective, environment, gameplay etc ...

While it's going to be using the ND engine and has been developed in sync with UC3, I hope it stands on it's own in terms of gameplay. I loved UC3, but felt a bit like they had lost the story-telling/gameplay sweet-spot they had in AT.....so we shall see.

EDIT:

The UC trilogy has a striking resemblance to another famous trilogy...

UC1/Starwars....classic..cult status born

UC2/Empire...uber awesome masterpiece

UC3/Return....strong but style over-takes substance...

Note to ND..if/when you revisit the UC universe..please do not do a George Lucas on us :smileyhappy:

EDIT END

Personally I hope it is more survivial than horror/shooter....emtionally driven ammo wathcing stuff :smileyhappy:

I also hope they add more active diversity to the gamplay world....less linear environments and possibly some RPG elements (inventory management style stuff and inworld object interaction)

Lastly more of a co-op driven focus would be nice as I think this is (for me)the online/offline nirvana....no MP please.

As a well trapsed genre lately, I hope they bring something fresh to it....which I'm sure they will ..and not just re-skin UC gameplay into a survival horror game....i.e not just a whole game like UC 1 in the facility ....

*end waffle*

There is certainly an arsenal of vehicles to choose from.

Re: The Last of Us

Some little items of info I have picked up.

-Naughty Dog are aiming for a late 2012 or early 2013 release date for their new IP,

-Naughty Dog co-president Christophe Balestra reckons that it is "trying to move the medium of video games into an area elevated in the same manner of respect" as movies. "We want to redefine what our medium is even called. Video game' is not an accurate name anymore. It is not necessarily a game with rules and a winner and a loser. It's an experience."

-Referencing that ant clip used to tease the game's announcement, Creative director Neil Druckmann said the idea for The Last of Us' post-catastrophic world came after watching nature doc Planet Earth.

The BBC series detailed a fungus that infects insects and then eats their brains from the inside out. "We instantly thought 'humans'," said game director Bruce Straley.

-The game, which has been in development since 2009, has also been confirmed to have the Oscar-winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla working on the soundtrack. Santaolalla scored Brokeback Mountain.
