Re: COLLECTOR EDITIONS of GOW are a RIP OFF

In my experience ive been more than satisfied with what i got, the bioshock 2 C.E was an example of giving you extras without taking your pants down....i mean a real vinyl LP, soundtrack cd, hardback artbook, 3 high quality prints, the game itself all presented in a velvet lined box for £20 more than the regular edition...am i happy? hell yah!!

DLC  in collectors editions is all about money.

I will explain, most people trade their games, or buy second hand games.  This gives the retailler money but not the developer.  If you buy a collectors edition, that is second hand, and you are forced to buy those extra multiplayer maps, the developer finally gets some money for this game.

In other words, we would get this content on disc, if we did not trade second hand games.

This is a nice theory but isnt true.

If all the DLC you get with GOW Ultimate trillogy becomes available on the store for everyone to download I can guarantee you it wont cost you 110 notes and 90% of people wouldnt bother paying to download a making of, even then its going to amount to a couple of quid, It would work out cheaper for people to buy standard editions then buy all the dlc and it woudl work out cheaper than many collector editions.   Also would feel like a kick in the teeth if i had bought the collectors edition.

Collector editions are about Unique content, how annoyed would you be if you spent 110 notes on GOW ultimate trilogy and realised that you payed 30 notes more than everyone else for a small plastic box (smaller than pic makes it look and plastic think batman special edition bataran in the UK )

What its about is ripping off the fans by not giving them what they are paying for..  Or in the case of DLC your renting the content as sooner or later its gone and unobtainable again..

They are essentially gimicks to intice first day sales.   As the true fans (the ones that buy the collector editions) we will buy it anyhow, they know that.

Also the 2nd hand games market actually makes the games industry a lot of money, many games I would never have played or got into including uncharted and god of war if i hadnt bought a 2nd hand copy, theres no way I would have paid full rrp for them, however buying them playing them and loving them has meant  I bought GOW 2, GOW Chains of Olympus and will buy GOW 3, I also bought uncharted 2 all at full retail price..

This is the main reason the games industry allows this or we would all get a unique code with our games that can be used once to register game to our PSN account and you couldnt trade it in.

Ultimately some are good and worth every penny others are jsut the game with a dlc code..

Personally I want Special Editions Like the Assas Creed one with the Character or the Fallout 3 one with the bobble head, something that is unique and not something im likely to lose if my PS3 breaks or something that has no resale value..

Buy a New release Game for 39.99 it has a resale value of say £30 notes, buy the same game as DLC for 39.99 is has a resale value of 0.

Re: COLLECTOR EDDITIONS are a RIP OFF

Only collectors editions I have bought in recent memory are Bayonetta and Bioshock 1 lol, pretty much a waste of time.

Preaching to the converted mate.

Ive allready imported the US verion of GoW collection. it cost about AU$50, and GoW3 will cost about AU$70 to import.  Considering the full retail version of the game will be between 100 and 120, with the ultimate collection setting you back $248.  I say screw local game shops and import the vanilla version of these games, especially when there is no multiplayer.
