Re: Enjoy your games whilst you can.

I think the graphics are fine and its the game-play that keeps me coming back for more not which engine is running the game.

I think the OP needs a re-think.

Personally many of the games across the platforms with successful multiplayer have good to excellent 1 player so I don't see the problem so far....

Halo 3

PGR

Resistance

Motorstorm

LBP

SF4

CIV REV

BUZZ

Singstar

Gears of War

Mario Kart

COD

......if you don't like it don't play it.

When the mutiplayer actually detracts from campaign then it will be worth complaining.

I own COD MW2, the OP mentions loads of 12 year olds, which I find strange I play the multiplayer (on the 360) for a few hours a week and tend to mostly play over 18's even over 25's and most of my regular friends are over 30.

Many people like myself with families enjoy a quick blast on multiplayer games such as gears, cod Warhawk etc because we often don't have much time to sit down and play long games.  Hence having a quick blast on a multiplayer is a good way for us older gamers to catch up and actually get a chance to use our consoles, so perhaps you need to re-think some of your comments.

Halo 3's single player sucked :smileyindifferent:

PGR single player sucked :smileyindifferent:

Resistance sucked :smileyindifferent:

Motorstorm single player sucked :smileyindifferent:

SF4 has the worst single player ever :smileyindifferent:

Buzz you can't really say has a single player :smileyindifferent:

COD single player sucked :smileyindifferent:

Like I said single player BASED games are 100x better than Multiplayer based games

Single player based:

Bioshock

GTA IV

Uncharted

Uncharted 2

Assassin's Creed 2

Batman: Arkham Asylum

Multiplayer based:

Call of Duty 4

Call of Duty MW2

Warhawk

Resistance

Resistance 2

Killzone 2

recurring theme? Guns in multiplayer :smileyindifferent:

What is the point in having a signature?

You thinly veiled disgust at Call of Duty had been well documented multiple times on here, Scorpio, and of course you are entitled to your opinion.

Firstly, to say that Call of Duty has forced all games to include a multiplayer element is quite frankly the biggest crock of BS I've heard in many a moon.
I would say if any games pushed an online element to the fore it would more likely be Halo 2, Half Life, and Star Wars: Battlefront.... all before COD 4...indeed COD 3 multiplayer wasn't a massive success. so I think it would be fair to say that COD4 MP was a restart (irrespective of whether IW or treyarch did COD3).

Secondly, I still think that Uncharted 2 is a worthy winner to GOTY on the strength of it's single player alone; even if it's Multiplayer modes get too much coverage for what is a distinctly mediocre online playing experience.

Thirdly, Bioshock 2 will be a massive flop for gamers if it's single player storyline is rubbish. Also, you talk about Assassin's Creed 2 being 100X better than multiplayer games.... again you're entitled to your opinion, but have you played the first Assassin's Creed - basically a glorified advert for Next-gen graphics?
Batman wouldn't really work as an online game anyway.... given that there is only one Batman it kind of restricts the game types you could play. Also you forget that Batman is one of those rare breeds - a super-hero licensed game that actually works.

Basically, you're trying to stoke an argument by using the word 'multi-player' or 'online' in place of 'FPS'

But if we stay on your 'multiplayer' games are ruining the world theme, I'd like to throw in

Burnout Paradise

Singstar

Guitar Hero

Rock Band

Operation Flashpoint

Little Big Planet

PES, FIFA and it's related franchises.

Now let's go to single-player based games

Devil May Cry 4

Sonic Unleashed

At least the last Tomb Raider games

All of which are established single-player franchises, and aren't exactly earth-shatteringly great.

Sure, just like statistics, if you choose the right games, you can prove any point you want.

If you want a recurring theme, try this one - You don't like Call of Duty...and hey we get it...everyone's different... But do you know what? - No-one is really bothered if you like COD, or Resistance, or Uncharted.

But you really need to improve your Signal-to-Noise ratio....because your 'I hate COD' message is just blending into the static now.

SPLITTERS!!

Re: Enjoy your games whilst you can.

Multiplayer doesn't affect that single player.

As many has said, Uncharted 2 had an amazing single player and a mediocre multiplayer.

You're getting an image from Call of Duty.

Call of Duty 4's campaign was decent.

Call of Duty World at War's campaign was OK but a little repetitive and boring.

Modern Warfare 2's campaign is really but ridiculous how short it is. The multiplayer isn't even that good.

Bioshock 2 is getting multiplayer, but I don't believe for a second that the single player will suck.

Resistance 2, that had a great campaign, online was kinda crap.

MGS4 has online, campaign... It can't be called crap.

I know where you're getting all this, but think multiplayer as a little bonus.

Games that have been succesful with single player will most likely keep on the greatness of it.

Re: Enjoy your games whilst you can.

More often than not the dev team that is taking care of the single-player story based mission is not the same group of developers handling the multiplayer - for instance, on Bioshock 2 there are two completely separate dev teams, even though the asset teams (artists, sound, etc) may well be shared.

To say that a great single-player IP is often sacrificed for a multiplayer component is pure fallacy - COD4 is basically the definition of this generations multiplayer and is the yardstick all online games (inc. MW2) will be measured against, simply because of it's longevity and retention of players over time.

Surely a similar argument could be made if all single-player game modes start to take on the Uncharted mode of episodic story boarding..... pointing to that as a lack of innovation in the single-player space and then shouting 'Uncharted 2 destroyed all single-player games'

Re: Enjoy your games whilst you can.

multiplayer like someone else said is a  good addition to most games,as it can add depth,ok its not everyone's cup of tea,but it up to the individual whether they use online features, most games these days need the online aspect,as the story mode can be to short, would you rather not have online access and a short game ,therfore feeling shortchanged,ok i agree that nowadays the online multiplayer part of the game takes over ,but personally i like to complete the game mostly before i go online so as i have some level of understanding of the game,i wouldnt worry to much about the games you mentioned just dissapearing if there good enough they will stand the test of time!!!!
