Pre-Ordering Games from Games Basement - Poor Experience

Hi,

I wanted to share my experience of ordering with Games Basement, a relatively new online retailer who sponsor TheSixthAxis:

I pre-ordered Tekken 6 from them about 2 weeks ago. It should have cost £34.99 but I had a voucher for £5 off so that brought the price down to £29.99. Now, ShopTo had Tekken 6 for £29.85 but I thought I'd give Games Basement a chance as they are new and I'd never used them before. Unfortunately, today is release day for Tekken 6 and they only posted it today, meaning that there is no way I'd be able to get it on release day. This is despite their guarantee that pre-orders are posted out in time for delivery on release day. On top of this, they charged my card on the day I placed the order rather than when it was dispatched!

All in all, I'm pretty disappointed. Has anyone else ordered from them, or in particular pre-ordered from them?

I have a feeling most mail order companies will stuggle at the minute to get games to you for release dates.

The postal strike is screwing everything up, so unless they use private couriers (which cost a fortune), you might have just suffered at the hands of the ongoing posties strike.

But i take on board your comment about them saying they guarentee delivery by release - so posting it on the day before release, even 1st class without a stike is pushing their luck to get it to you - unless they have a time machine :smileyhappy:

Maybe they should've anticipated the strike then, it's been on for a while and they could've shipped it earlier.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies. I'm totally fine with the delay in the post (I run an online retailer myself so I know how much trouble the post is having at the moment) but it was the fact that it wasn't even posted until today that I find very poor service, especially as they charged me two weeks ago! If anything they should have sent it early to compensate for this, as Ravendust says.

well if they "guarantee" it for release day, postal strikes aside they should have made sure you had for release. If I was you and you paid by credit card I would put a chargeback through against them until they agree to compensate. If like you say they had sent yesterday thats fair enough as it was sent (in normal postal times) within time but sending on release day that clearly isnt the case.

SPLITTERS!!

They cant get the game from the supplier that far ahead of the release date, if you could why not just move the date closer.

They can shopto sends them sometimes 4 days before release.
Gamesbasemet took 14 days to get a game to me..

I have used them in the past but it was a 2 day turn around, another game i bought took 6 days for an import (fair enough)
Then i ordered a recent game and it took them 13 days to get it and they posted it on the 14th day which took 3 days to get here..

On twitter i asked them why and they blamed royal mail, but for my case.. weeks before the strike, the game was already out so they had no excuses.

On another note though, i told people to get demons souls from them based on my turn around and good service before and they let everyone down upto 21 days.. it is just poor and they would of lost the customers.

I will stick with shopto at all times now since they (gamesbasement) let me down.
