I havent played red faction but I have played Resistance 2. I know red faction is a sandbox so you will probably get a lot more gameplay from the single player of that than Resistance 2, I personally thought Resistance 2's single player was too short and linear, and I found its was very easy, RFOMs was much better. Resistance 2 howeveris one of my favorite games on the PS3, but thats because of the online side with co-op and competetive offering loads of things to do and it kept me goind for ages.
I would recomend R2 because I really like it and its reviews were better than red factions, but if your not planning on playing online then red faction would probably give you more for your money, you should check out the reviews.

I've only played Resistance so I can only really give an opinion on that.
The single player isn't too short, although you'll find that the bosses (especially in the finale) are not that challenging to defeat. The storyline isn't as strong as that in R:FOM but if you enjoy the sci/fi action game genre set amidst a 1950's backdrop then you'll enjoy R2. Graphically wise it's not going to blow you away but certain stages do look magnificant (fighting the leviathan in chicago is a particular higlight)
R2 excels online but then again it's not as good as R:FOM, taking a more CoD esque approach (2 weapons, perks known as berseks etc) as oppose to the more unique online mode in R:FOM (weapon pickups, no berseks). Online in R2 is divided into two sections Co-op and Competitive.
Co-op involves playing with other online users against A.I to complete a series of objectives. You can choose to be a certain class (medic, soldier or spec op) and by working together (teamwork is vital) you progress through the level gaining xp and completing the set objectives. The xp is used to rank up your class, which gains access to different weapons, armour and berseks. If you don't like standard online modes where you fight against other users online then you'll really enjoy Co-op.
Competitive matches involve the standard deathmatches, team deathmatches, core control (basically capture the flag) and a few other game modes. Again xp is used to rank up and gain different weapons and berseks.
Something to note is that while R2 does not have a co-op single player mode, the game does allow 2 players on the one PS3 to play together (split screen) in the online games (both competitive and co-op modes).
If you haven't got R:FOM then I'd probably recommend that over both R2 and Red Faction

I am lucky enough to own both games and here my experiences with both:
Resistance 2: Pure quality. I may have just discribed it in one word! The graphics on the game are... well... the best I have ever seen on any game! (and ive played alot of games, believe me). The campain is out standing and you wander around corners not knowing what is going to shoot or jump out at you or what is going to be chasing you! However to fully understand the campain mode you must of first played the 1st resistance. You maybe a bit confused otherwise. On the other hand the online play is great! You can play 2 player online! I think any game mode online can be played with 2 player which is good when you have a friend over etc. Overall I rate Resistance 2 - 9.5/10
Red Faction: Ok lets get straight to the point I dont know if its me or the game. The game itself looks and playes great but its just my type of game you know? When I got it I was so excited and loved it at first but then I got bored of the game really quickly and ended up finishing the game half way through because it just was not as exciting as Resistance. The games environment is fantastic because you can destroy just about anything! The online play is quite good but to be honest not the best ive seen. Overall I rate Red Faction - 8.0/10
Hope this helped!

Hmmm... dunno would I would probably say Red Faction is better , but that's just me .
Would like to also add that yeah R : FoM is kinda better than R2 , overall yeah it's rocks more than R2 although I do prefer the R2 multiplayer more than R:FoM I just like the fact it's more slowed down like CoD , I much prefer the slow approach to online gaming I don't like fast paced games as much which is what I feel R:FoM let it self down on . Some people like fast paced games better though it's all opinion I guess so yeah if you want fast paced online get R:FoM and if you want more CoD like online go for R2 but if you want an even better game get Red Faction :Guerrilla , in my opinion it owns both of them lol . Never really been that much of a fan of Resistance games anyway personally I thought they were good but nothing overly special I only bought the first one cause it was the only game that looked like it was worth playing when PS3 came out . I got the second one because it looked better than the first but ultimately the online on R2 is the only thing that sets it apart for me .

The best way to solve your dilema is to buy them both.
Get R2 with ur paypal money and then run down to Asda and pick up Red Faction for £25 (its on Rollback at the moment).
