thanks for reply and link, will check that out soon... i had a feeling After i had posted that this s-hub would have a switch of some kind to do what you'd said.. my bad.... but why the guy in virgin call centre tell me I need s-hub if i'm only going to be getting 30mb.. anyway as long as theres no issues with a wired ps3 connected i am good, as i rarely download much on pc or xbox.. and the tv shouldn't suffer any ill effects... looking forward to checking the link out... thnx again.

Surely do a speedtest on your PC wired and wireless...then do the same with your PS3 and compare...it will tell you where the issue lies.
Use: http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/
Do NOT use: http://www.speedtest.net/ as they are highly inaccurate.

Morning all,
Thanks for all the replies.
@chrisandsheva - Thanks for the welcome. I've been so used to the download speeds of my connection that is was painful for it to take that long for the 700Mb download. What really frustrated me is that by the time it downloaded, my OH wanted to go shopping so never got to play the game! I've seens lots of negative posts online about the SuperHub, or SuperDUD as people like to call it. We've always had it though so I've nothing to compare it to. Onle thing I do know is that all other wireless devices connect at 40Mb and anything wired has connected at 95-100Mb so the problem is only with the PS3. I don't know anyone else with a PS3 I'm afraid so can't test another without a store exchange.
@homerjnick - I checked on my Macbook (wireless), PS3 (wireless) and PC (wired) with broadband speed checker. Macbook got 30-40Mb, PS3 2-6Mb, PC 90-100Mb. Speedtest.net gave me 40Mb, PS3 can't load, PC 100Mb respectively.
I bought the PS3 from Amazon so I should be OK to return if need be. My other thought was to try the PS3 on another broadband connection to rule that out but everyone I know is on Virgin with a superhub! They're taking over the world lol.
Any other advice appreciated. Thanks for the replies so far.

Over the past few months the speeds I have been getting from PSN have been absolutely shocking. I get up to 72Mbit/s down (around 8.97Mbyte/s) from many services, but struggle to get 1MByte/s (8Mbit/s) now from PSN.
It actually puts me using it so they need to sort this out for a larger number of people. I understand many people get decent speeds from PSN, and I used to, too (around 3Mbyte/s / 24Mbit/s) but it has been terrible, like I have said over the past few months.

That whole DNS thing scares me. What's that all about?
I did try connecting the PS3 with the same ethernet cable my PC uses. I got 12mb download using broadband speed checker and PS3's own speed test. My PC gets 100Mb with the same connection / cable.
That's interesting, but also disappointing, about PSN. If it's gonna be this slow, it really puts me off PS3. I use it for netflix quite heavily too so it's important that the connection is fast enough, but also reliable. And wireless is a must in my case really without loads of messing with a cable.
I hope I can find a solution. I'm gonna try calling Virgin tonight to make sure there are no ISP problems.
