Im getting so sick of this now. I thought Sony were known for having good customer service and a good reputation. Turns out their worse then anyone else. Destroying my console then asking me and others to pay for it is absolutely disgusting.

40GB PS3 1-2years old. Same problem ocurred after upgrading to v3/v3.01. Appears that this version speeds up blu ray drive to make system quicker, which overheats electronics. Sony Australia are replacing anybodys who breaks whether in or out of warranty. I think Sony UK's call centre are maximising profits by asking £128 before Sony will have to eventually give in if they want to maintain customer loyalty.
DO NOT PAY THEM. JUST KEEP HARASSING THEM AND THE RETAILER UNTIL THEY GIVE IN - QUOTE SALE OF GOODS ACT 1979.

Yep add me to the list.
Mine broke this week whilst playing pes 2010. The game froze up and when I turned system back on it wasn't seeing any discs at all. I have a 60gb which was 2 years old this month. Contacted Sony and they said it would be £99 to repair i am contemplating whether to buy a new one or get it repaired.
Not very impressed though!
