Im another person, updated the system, when to play a game, it froze, I reset the console and it hasnt been able to read a disk since. mines a 60gb original with ps2 compatability

OK, I'm glad I found this thread.
So, this is what happened:
I started playing Modern Warfare 2 today, but I had to update first to firmware 3.01.
After a few levels, my PS3 froze in-game.
When I wanted to start Modern Warfare 2 again, my PS3 didn't found a disk.
Since then, none of my Blu Rays are working, only DVD's still play well.
Sony, what is this?!

same thing has happend to me just lastnight, new ps3 slim 120gb bought in august, was working fine with other games but now it seems modern warfare 2 has foobard it
im on firmware version 3.01
is there anything i can do about this???is it the lens that has gone or what?because i have had 3.01 firmware for ages now and never had problems before

Ours not working either - won't read blu ray dvd's and did yesterday.
Anyone got any ideas as i dont have a spare couple hundred quid to replace!
Is there anything like watchdog out there that this problem could be reported to??

I have had it since July 08, its 40gb version.

Someone is planning on suing Sony according to this article. So how come Sony are still letting the update happen

Not sure what we're going to do now......
And yes we know it is affecting a 'small' proportion of users what ever that might be but it still sucks that the expensive console youve taken great care with packs up along with thousands of others after an update.
General ware and tear you can deal with, this......... is just a pain in the @rse and a joke
