Another "money grab" by Sony......peed off

[ Edited ]

I used to copy my game saves to a USB stick as a backup, on a regular basis, but I hadn't done it for over 12 months......must be getting too complaicant in my old(ish) age :smileyindifferent:

Last night I thought I would because I'm planning to install a bigger HDD, and from previous experience, when doing a full system backup, not all game saves (the ones without copyright protection also, and various other items) will be restored.

So I went to my 1st game save, pressed triangle to bring up the copy option, and there is the PS Plus symbol next to it, I was instantly suspicious, but pressed copy anyway, and to my horror I was prompted to sign up to PS Plus, at a minimum cost of $21 for 3 months.

What's the go Sony ??....I just wanna copy my game saves, install a bigger HDD, and download more PSN games without "adding" 21 bucks to the price of a new drive :smileymad:

Dissapointed........

*edit* that's my yearly rant done :smileytongue:

Hey Gav,

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

I've just tested it here, and if you attempt to copy a Save file - you should be given the option of multiple destinations.

The first options will be Online Storage (for which you would need PS+). If you continue scrolling, you'll have the options of other any USB storage devices and finally, other users on the console.

Can you check it out and let us know? There's no reason you'd need PS+ to copy Saved data that's not copy protected.

The copy protection is up to the publisher of the game anyway, not Sony.
Hence why some games are Save-copy protected and others are not.

Gav may have been talking about non-protected save files.

To my knowledge nothing has changed with this feature at all recently.

All is good, I haven't done this for over 12 months and my dementia is getting worse

I didn't even have the USB stick inserted :Stupid:  so all I saw was online storage

*proceeds to give myself an uppercut*

Btw, I could only save 44 of 55 game saves, of course some are the games I'm currently playing :smileysad:

Hey Gavsta72

I hope all is well with you since last time we spoke

As -sbs has said, any game that is not copy protected can be copied to a memory stick no worries. The PlayStation Plus save is for the games which are copy protected and if you are happy to be a Plus member the non protected ones first.

I always copy my GT5 file onto my memory stick & Plus Save at the end of every session.

The choice to make games copy protected is up to the developer.

Hope this clears up any further queries you may have.

Yeah Gav, any time you move save files to another system, be it a 'full system backup' or individual save files, you'll find that in all likelihood you aren't going to be able to get 100% of it moved across and working... I've got a handful of games where I have lost my saves forever (on my 3rd system now)... I can't recall ever having any issues on the same system though... ie: upgrading the existing hard drive..

PSP to Vita can be a bit mixed too, if the PSP files were created on another system (ie: the old PSP)... Hopefully when my 32GB card gets too big and I decide to buy probably a 16GB card and move my digital PSP games to it, I can transfer all my saves ok, being that it will be the same system...

I love the idea of online storage, one of the many good things coming from PS+ by the sounds of it, im moving systems all the time and great to be able to retrieve

Yeah same, my 4th PS3 now, this one has lasted the longest...18 months so far, touch wood

That's why I used to backup my saves to a USB stick on a regular basis
