As the title says my 40gb PS3 needs a new blu ray drive, Can anyone link to to one for cheap-ish

You only want the lense, the BD drive hardware can't be replaced with out Sony level Engineering skills.

To pair its hardware to the motherbroad.  ( The Chips in both are paired at the factory )

Not sure but think you need a KES-410A lense but double check.

But that should get you started looking..

you can swap the whole drive (same model) but you need to keep pcb (that is what's paired with console) from your old/broken drive.

Ive watched some YT vids and all they do is take the bored from the drive and move it to another Blu ray drive, Is it really that simple

And people have tryed that here and  posted that it failed to work. Its likely the board is what has actualy failed.

I bought a 40gig with a dead Blu-Ray drive and used the drive from my YLOD 60gig to fix it and it works fine.
