We all complain about the blatant overcharging of goods in Australia in comparison to the rest of the world.

There was a recent announcement of a parliamentary inquiry into why Australians are being overcharged for technology compared to overseas customers, this has opened a whole can of worms with many many more examples being reported other than the cited main offenders, Mircosoft/ Apple /Adobe.

Australian Personal Computer magazine [APC] , in it's current June 2012 issue, has given an example of the disparity in pricing of games bought over STEAM [p9]; as a result, APC has decided to open a register where YOU can send a example of overcharging , of either hardware or software, which will then be verified, then added to the "Worse Offenders list" which will then be passed on to the parliamentary inquiry.

Can't say I'm expecting anything to come of this.  Governments hold enquiries up the wuzzo, yet rarely does anything seem to come from them.

If people are apathetic and don't report the overcharging as they see it, well nothing will be done.

Which is exactly the none action that the guilty parties are counting on, and that has allowed the practice to continue as long as it has.

People come to this forum and post a complaints about games downloaded in Australia costing more than the USA, they have done for years, yet either get no response, or "The publishers set the prices" excuse, and it is left there, with nothing being done.

This register is the first step in positive action, if enough examples are shown, the whole practice will inevitably have to come under much stronger scrutiny .

The guilty parties will have each and every one of the examples of the overcharging printed for all to see.

It' would only be a matter of time before things snowballed and the general media would have no choice but to report on it.

Then some for of government action would have to be taken, if only to save face to the irrefutable proof of the practice taking place.

it's a good idea, hopefully something comes out of it. There's no reason these days why a AAA new release game should cost more than AU$70 (compared to the US$60 price point). I just found it funny that the examples listed in the Tech table included the Lego Millenium Falcon. I love me some lego as much as the next bloke, but I didn't realise it was a tech item

PSN (or is it SEN) prices in general should be on there. The rates for the latest update (and subsequent ones) are the same as those listed on that site for MW3.

It would be nice for something to happen about it as it would mean less people would purchase games from overseas and help our own economy. I'm pretty sure even 10% of $79 is better than 0% of $99.

Respect for putting this up.  If you want cheaper games when they come out out up an example.  Sony DLC via the PS3 store seems a prime target.

My son went to the national robotics comp and a lot of the robots are now made from Lego. So I guess it could be now classified as a tech seeing as you can now program it to do things like play soccer. Kind of funny the looks we all got from the airport security taking them on the plane to Canberra. They thought we were terrorists with the boxes of wires and sensors.
