Battlefield 3 Joining server error

Hi all

Been looking around for a couple of days now and can't seem to find any hard info on this. Basically for a couple of weeks now I haven't been able to join in any bf3 online games. I go to join any type of game, it says "joining server" for about 20seconds and then gives me a message:

"Failed to join the game. Please check your network connection and try again"

Now I did have some issues with my network which I have fixed (it was crashing my whole router when trying to download updates for games" but I believe to have fixed that. I am online, I can do everything like play other games online, psn store etc just not join a bf3 game!!

Anyone else having this issue or know a fix please?

Cheers

Re: Battlefield 3 Joining server error

EA games can be slippery when it comes to connecting.

It's likely a port triggering issue, when you run a PS3 connection test is UPNP available? if you still struggle despite UPNP availability you could try manually opening the required BF3 ports or placing your PS3 in a DMZ in your router (opening all ports essentially)

Re: Battlefield 3 Joining server error

I've tried all those tricks and none of them made a difference. It's weird because I got into a game the other night after fixing my router with a firmware update. Then the next day it was back to how it was not letting me play. So I tried DMZ and UPnP, both didn't make a difference. It's really odd how its just bf3 though =/

Re: Battlefield 3 Joining server error

After applying the FW update to the router did you reset the device?

Not doing so can sometimes mean the update is reset after a while, or at least it used to.

Re: Battlefield 3 Joining server error

For joining errors, try to join via server browser instead of quick join or quit and restart BF3. Joining a friend can also help. Had a few problems a couple of weeks ago but it's been pretty solid last few days. More an EA issue than your setup I would think, especially if it sometimes work. The old switch everything off then on again trick can help here.

Re: Battlefield 3 Joining server error

Joining via the server browser is usually the best way to go. I find the Dice servers tend to work best. It's usually hard work trying to get into any other servers at peak times.

Cheers everyone, its fixed...for now. I did reset the router on updating the firmware but just to be sure I switched off the internet modem and router for the night and it seems to have solved it :smileyhappy:
