definitely start with the Uncharted series, i cant rate them games enough!

I'd say it worth picking one up. Even if a new PS4 is announced say next year at E3 it may not be released until the year after that giving you atleast 2 years of PS3 to catch up and enjoy it.

Best way to go though is, Sony always bring out a slim version. So when the PS4 is announced and released I'm holding off for a few years till the price drop and slim version is announced, giving me enough time to catch up on a few PS3 games to finish. 

Also as people have pointed out, PS3 is surely to be supported strong even when a PS4 is announced and launched threw new games and apps.

It is not to late in fact now is the perfect time to get one. The way I look at it there is noting much out in the next month or 2 except for Ghost Recon, Sniper Elite ect.

So buying a PS3 now enables you to buy or the great PS3 Exclusives and enjoy them all wile the summer drought kicks in.

Games like:
Resistance 1,2,3
Uncharted 1,2,3
God Of War HD Collection Vol 1 and 2 plus God Of War 3
Splinter Cell HD Collection
Little Big Planet 1,2
Infamous 1,2
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and Metal Gear Solid 4 (HD Collection not exclusive)
Demon's Souls and Dark Souls
Motorstorm Collection
Grand Turismo 5

Then you have all the non exclusives to enjoy like Battlefield 3, Fallout, Oblivion, Skyrim ect.

@ocelot07 Beautiful post, thank you! It's lovely to see what games to get laid out in front of you! One game I really want too for some reason is ModNation Racers. Always looked awesome! Definitely going to pick up Uncharted, Infamous, Jak and Daxter Collection and probably that Resistance Triple pack that was outed by Amazon. DEFINITELY picking up MGS4. Love the series! Thanks again.

I think you're slightly mislead. Who says its on the horizon? It hasn't even been announced yet, and then it will be a year until we see it on shelves.

Just go out and by a PS3 and enjoy it.

As you waited this long for a PS3 then there's no harm waiting another month. Next month is E3 (the biggest event of video games).There could be announcement from Sony of a PS3 price cut or a new smaller design PS3.
