Re: Boo Online Passes!

It looks like they are coming up with more and more ideas for me to buy less and less games and it's working.

I have bought at least half the amount of games this year compared to last, the constant held back maps packs etc started this for me.

Compared to three/years ago approx 2 new games a week to now 1 -2 a every 2-3 months.

"Sony make money on software sales not on console sales, well not a lot , for instance the PS3 is still loosing money hardware wise but making money software wise."

Doesn't make his point invalid. Replace Sony with Nintendo and you have a company that does make money on their consoles. What do you have to say about that.

I don't like the fact that I can't lend out a game without burdening my brother with the online pass stuff. It seems I can't even go over to his place and play online over there.

Re: Boo Online Passes!

are far as I am concerned the cost of server access was paid for when the original unit was paid for and should follow that unit until the end of the game.

I am still ***** off at Sony for closing down the EOJ severs while people were still playing and some of those people paid a hell of a lot of money for cards, camera etc. I bought 2 packs 2 weeks before they announced that they were closing it.

Give it a couple of years, tops, and they'll be charging people that bought a game second hand for patches.

'I can't see the problem. After all, the second hand purchaser hasn't contributed to the development of patch V1.2' and so on will follow.

That would be covered by an online pass though... The online component would not work without patches, if you buy an online pass, you ARE contributing to the after care development costs.

Re: Boo Online Passes!

The game industry is going the online pass route come what may, I feel sorry for people who buy an online pass for a used game and then find out that the multiplayer side is dead.

I mean strictly SP games that require updates to run adequately. Will they require an online pass too?

Suspend your disbelief and nod your head reaps, I beseech you. :smileytongue:

I like the idea of online passes, the pre-owned market is getting completely out of hand nowadays, and the developers don't see a penny from pre-owned sales. Even Supermarkets have started doing pre-owned games now and any shop you go into the preowned shelves take up twice the space as the brand new. When pre-owned first started it was little box in the corner.

Another thing I don't agree with is shops don't stock all games and if you want anything old like Buzz (just an example) you can't find anywhere cos they don't stock it new and the only way you will get it is pre-owned --- it's crap tbh.

Also, you can buy new games cheaper than pre-owned so why bother anyway.

For the person who wants to lend games to his brother, nowt stopping you there I'm afraid, especially if he in same household cos he can try the online on your account.

Re: Boo Online Passes!

PC has had game codes for years that's why the 2nd hand market cant really work. Right now this is what the developers feel they need to do, there could be a half way fix if they started making PSN like steam so if you wanted to log in to your games form another PS3 you would just have to log in. This would kill off used games completely though.

This is why i can see the onlive service really taking off its what developer's have wanted for years. I have played games on it from here in the UK on the US servers and it still played and responded fine.
