Starting the game signed out prove's it's a connection problem. There has been countless threads in the tech boards recently disabling torrent programmes seems to fix the majority of users problems. 

If it's not that fix port forwarding or a DMZ follow as second alternative fixes.

Have a dig around the forums.

I'm sure I remember somebody else wth the same issue, and I think it was solved by deleting one of the updates and reinstalling, but it's worth having a search.
