Re: Crysis PS3 EXCLUSIVE

It was actually Crysis that was the final nail in the coffin for PC gaming in my house. I managed to play COD4 and Bioshock on the PC, but then I upgraded from Flight Sim 04 to Flight Sim X and it ran like a dog, then I tried Crysis and that was it.

I realised that if I wanted to play the newer games on the horizon I would nedd to upgrade again (my PC is only a year old ***!!!!) That was it, I had had enough of upgrading, messing about with settings, worrying if a game would work or not, trawling forums to get help on getting a game to run.

Now I just sit down, pick up a pad and blast away, and instead of a 22 inch monitor I get to frag on a 46in HDTV. No worry's about if a game will work or not, if I buy a game now I know it I can play it. COD4 on the PS3 is just awesome, it runs so smoothly and is better that the PC once your used to the controller.

I am converted!

I know the feeling. My new rig cost me £1400 to put togeather, the computer is probably worth over £1800 after being able to source items from various places I got a good deal on the CPU and GPU's. My friend paid £1000 for a Dell XPS thinking it was the dogs, which in reality it wasn't. He was better off paying £900 from Alienware and getting a better system for less money. Where my rig can run Crysis at high settings without dropping framerates, his can barely run medium without any slowdown.
He said he wuill upgrade as he has to, and after looking for the parts he needs, it would cost him £600 to upgrade to the same level as mine, and over £1000 to get an extremely good upgrade.
So where he paid £1000 and then needs to add £600+ to make it better, I paid £200 less than him, for what is a much better machine even after the upgrades. I won't be upgrading at all, at least until the new Intel Extreme range is out. The only thing I would need to upgrade in the future as it stands is the mobo.

This isn't a whole "mine is better than yours" post, it is just saying for what a PS3 costs, unless you either invest with a lot of cash into a new rig or can just simply afford it (), PC gaming is becoming more of an "elite" thing due to prices.

Re: Crysis PS3 EXCLUSIVE

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=179853 360 not powerful enougth apparrently lol. quote: For technical reasons we hear an Xbox 360 version of Crysis isn't in development. Bet you're glad you bought a PS3 now, eh? I have to laugh at the comments, in fact the Xbox 360 is more than powerful enough, infact it has MORE available ram, a far better GPU and a CPU designed solely for gaming in mind. Unless the developers at Crytek have said it then I am left with scratching my head in dismay until then I spit at those comments.

Re: Crysis PS3 EXCLUSIVE

Never had that problem on mine. Still, whatever noise the drive makes, it's not as bad as my 360 and it's constant DVD spinning noise which is just unbearable at times.

To be fair, it wasn't continuous; just certain parts of the game seemed to be plagued by it. You're right though; it's nothing compared to the good ol' beige box - headphones are a much more regular occurence there; particularly late at night when I can't crank the surround up to compensate. :smileywink:

I think PC gaming has always been a bit exclusive in that sense, although of course there are many hundreds of great PC games out there that don't have such steep requirements (or used to, but relative hardware is much cheaper now). Also, if you keep an eye on benchmark reviews, there are usually some diamonds to find (i.e. buying two low/mid range graphics cards that are a match for a single high-end card if put together in SLi/Crossfire, but much cheaper). :smileywink:

I haven't upgraded my PC in years, and still contemplating whether to get the new iMac or upgrade the PC.
I like the iMac and the OS, but with the problems the screens have I have held off for a while, and still holding off on the PC, because my current does what I need but not with the gaming side of things.

Will probably go the Intel route this time around, as the AMD's just aren't cutting the mustard like they were pre Core Duo, and will probably go NVidia as well, although I think the ATI does has a cleaner look to the picture, just maybe not as fast.

But like most people, get fed up with the huge expense of upgrades for not much more in the performance department, which is why I like the consoles. For such little money, they have produced a power house. Just think of what we pay for the PS3, and what Sony actually paid to make them. We were actually getting more machine for our money, because Sony were taking a hit on the sale price. Or so we are led to believe.

Anyway, Consoles are great gaming machines because they are consistant hardware, where as PC's not only have to contend with the hardware, but the software as well, which can really hamper the gaming performance.

So, for now, PS3 and 360 for me, unless I get a better gaming rig, but even then, it may only be a few different games I end up playing.

And you are still an idiot.

Both consoles have 512mb of ram, used in different ways. Unless you are talking about that little bit of EDram. Woopie Doo.

The CELL can be programmed to perform as well as the 360's GPU and probably more so when the Devs get used to it, where as the 360's CPU and GPU are fixed with there internal functions.

So, go listen to the podcast by the Cryterion Devs and you'll learn a few things. Probably the reason why both the 360 and PS3 versions of Burnout Paradise both look the same. Must be they programmed the game to work on Multi Processors, which both the 360 and PS3 are, and then just use the odd bit of code necessary based on the rest of the hardware.

Re: Crysis PS3 EXCLUSIVE

Wow, this is good news - from what I have read I didn't think PS3 owners would ever get this game. Hopefully it'll live up to expectations :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Crysis PS3 EXCLUSIVE

If it did come out on the PS3 I would still not get it, simply because I always find PC FPS games far more competitive. However I would get it IF they made it keyboard and mouse compatible (which is why I find PC FPS games more competitive), as I feel this is an underestimated feature of the PS3. If they want to get more PC gamers on their side, Sony need to push for this with games. Also, with a keyboard, they never have to limit themselves to 14 or so buttons.

Re: Crysis PS3 EXCLUSIVE

I really hope they include keyboard and mouse support. If not I'll probably just upgrade my PC for it.

Far Cry 2 looks more impressive though. Could Crysis be old news already?

however farcry2 is not being developed by Crytek the great ppl behind Farcry and Crysis. so I'm a bit sceptic on that one, will make my own mind when I try it.
