for a while now my DS3 disconnects every minute when i try and play while charging.

if i leave the controller switched on and just sitting charging its fine but if i try and play games while its charging i get the reconnect controller message constantly.

ive tried resetting and resyncing the controller many times with no luck.

anybody else had this problem? is it likely time to buy a new DS3?

Purely guesswork but I would say the DS3 is dying, how old is it ? Does it work ok playing games whilst not connected via the charge cable ?

got it with my slim about 1.5 year ago, it all works fine when playing unwired and holds a decent charge etc.

Have you tired the reset button on the bottom side of the controller? you will need a pin/needle

yeah ive tried resetting with the button quite a few times but doesnt help, think it looks like i'll have to get a new one.

ive went through a fair few DS3's since the ps3 1st came out and none have been through fault of my own, the controllers seem to be prone to breaking on there own far too easy which isnt good considering the price we pay for them.

I had the same problem a couple of days ago. I thought it was probably 'cos I was using a 5 meter USB extension plus the normal charging cable.
Strange thing is it disconnected every time I filled the Tricky gauge on SSX.

Where you using an extra long cable? and did the disconections happen when someting happened in the game?

using quite a long cable about 3m but im sure i tried using the standard ps3 cable to and same happened, i'll give the shorter wire a try again.

Try using a different controller and see if the issue still happens. It may be that the ports on the console aren't giving enough power to charge and play simultaneously.

tried this morning with my brothers controller, the controller syncs and works fine with my ps3 but when i plug the cable in to charge it the lights blink twice then just go back off.

I'm thinking that's a problem with the front USB ports. If I'm right there's nothing much you can do about it short of having the console replaced.

Is the console under warranty? (under a year old)
