[ Edited ]

I've been having the same issues. The backup went fine last month.

Since then I've installed inFamous2, inFamous; Festival of Blood and Batman: Arkham City. Also the 3.73 update.

I get the same issues described above. I've called the helpline and spoken to 3 different people. They advised me to;

  • Reformat my USB HDD, in case there is an issue with it. (Done, didn't help)
  • Try a different USB (I'll do this next week when I can borrow one from work, but I'm not hopeful)
  • Boot to Safe Mode and run Restore File System (Done, reported & deleted corrupted data but didn't fix the issue)
  • Back up manually.

I've done the manual backup. The only save files that wouldn't copy are AC2, Demon Souls, Kill Team and Sonic4. None of these have been used in the last month since the last successful backup.

My personal feeling is that it's probably the coded Catwoman DLC for Arkham City, although that's just a hunch.

The final suggestion that they gave me was the nuclear option of formatting the PS3 HDD, but I'm not willing to do that without a full backup, mainly because of the Demon Souls file.

Re: Error 80010038

Hi guys,

Me too, I'm having this ridiculous problem.

First of all:

HOW RIDICULOUS IS IT THAT YOU HAVE TO DELETE SAVEFILES THAT YOU WANT TO BACK UP JUST TO PERFORM THE BACK UP?

Sony, a well meant FU for that.

Anyway, now the frustration is "gone", I can "help".

Since I use my PS3 just for gaming, I only have savefiles and game data on my HDD.

I couldn't perform the back up, and got the infamous code. To see which savefiles were causing troubles, I did the back up manually. Indeed, savefile after savefile. (Thank you, Sony!)

These games' savefiles were cause trouble:

- Guitar Hero 5

- Heavy Rain

- Lara Croft & the Guardian of Light

- Tomb Raider: Underworld (here I was able to copy the normal saves but not the "progress & options")

With these savefiles, the only option was to store them online (in the cloud, I guess?). But for that, you need to have a PS Plus account, which I don't have.

So I lost a lot of time on this, and some of my savefiles.

I am pretty ***** of at Sony for not taking care of this problem. FOR ALREADY 3 YEARS.

Anyway, I hope this post could be of some help for you guys.

And sorry for all the raging. =]
