Ethernet Cable

I've been running my ps3 with a wireless connection pretty much since I got it a few years back, but with the new broadband I got I figured I should get a wire to get the best use out of it.  So I buy the ethernet cable and recieved it a couple of days ago, its 20m long and I rig it up to the router, plug it into the ps3 and fire it up.  Went to internet connection settings and all was well, the cable was recognised and it was working great.

So today I decided to run the cable under the floor (for neatness) now its all plugged up again and the ps3 doesnt see it.  Since I was online with the wire I havent signed in since.

Any ideas guys? I've checked both ends of the cable to make sure there isnt any damage and the red laser is shining out the back of the console. Also tried resetting the router bu still no luck.

Re: Ethernet Cable

Not the answer you'll want to hear, but you may have damaged your cable as you've installed it under the floor.

I'm a little confused about the red laser lights, the only red lights on the back of your PS3 is the optical (for audio), i don't think there's one for the ethernet (could be wrong though).  From memory (as my PS3's off and i've not checked) on the front of the PS3 is the lights for the wireless and HDD.  HDD is orange and wireless is green.  Also, check it hasn't defaulted back to wireless.

No mate your right about the optical.  Cable definatley doesnt look damaged. I didnt have to force it through the hole, I made it big enough, I tried blowing it in case there was dust or anything.

Had a look a the router and the light corresponding to the port is light solid where as none of the others are, does that mean anything ?

Re: Ethernet Cable

No sharp bends, lots of slack. Ill pull the cable back up tomorow and double check it isnt damaged, the ends are fine. Ill try it in another device as well then post here.

Re: Ethernet Cable

Most likely won't help but have you tried another ethernet port on the router? Take the cable out the port it is in now and put it in another?

Re: Ethernet Cable

best thing to do is trial and error;
1. try another ethernet cable (move your PS3 closer if necessary)
2. try the current cable with a PC/Laptop and see what happens.

Should get your answer.

Re: Ethernet Cable

Pulled the cable up today and connected it between the router and modem - nothing happened so I knew it was the cable.
I checked along it for nicks or anything but upon closer inspection I noticed that the little teeth on one of the connectors were all bent. New cable I suppose, at least its only £3. Thanks anyway guys.

Sounds like someone stepped on the end while you were in the process of fitting it under the floor, been there many times chief.
