would exFAT work on the playstation?

No, ExFAT is a Microsoft file system designed for large USB flash drives.

It's not compatible with anything other than windows vista and xp service pack 3.

You should get a third party disc utility to fomat the HDD to fat 32. That's what I did. Unfortunatley I can't remember what program I used but it was someone on these forums that told me. So try searching to see if you can find the name of the program.

Re: FAT32? i got exFAT?

So... There is no way to put a file larger than 4GB on an external drive and have it readable by the PS3? That is a horrible limitation as I often watch video encoded in HD 720p format and those files are usually much bigger than 4GB... As of now I have been splitting the files so they would fit on a FAT32 drive but that is a big hassle and I am hoping for a better solution.

Re: FAT32? i got exFAT?

Get a bigger internal HDD for your ps3, put your media onto that using somw sort of dlna media server, when you have finished with said media , delete it to free up more space.....simples :smileyhappy:

Do this:

Go to Start > Right click "Computer" and click "Manage"
Click "Disk Management"
Find the HDD you want to format then Right click > Format

See if it lets you choose FAT32 by doing it this way. Hope this helps :smileywink:

Re: FAT32? i got exFAT?

I also recommend using Swiss Knife i tried to format a new Western Digital Passport External HDD on Windows XP in DOS and didn't work. Swiss Knife worked though :smileyvery-happy: wheeeY!

It's annoying that both Xbox360 & PS3 only read FAT32 external drives with 4GB file size limit :/

Re: FAT32? i got exFAT?

Can anyone please give a straight answer on how to format to FAT32.

I've tried this: http://download.cnet.com/E aseus-Partition-Master-Hom e-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html but upon clicking 'apply', the message 'One or more of the operations you made require rebooting to complete. If you press 'yes', the computer will reboot to perform the operations.'

I don't like the sound of that. Why would the pc need to reboot to format an external drive?

Also, I can't try swissknife as the site is down.

Re: FAT32? i got exFAT?

Download this http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=197

It's much easier to use than swissknife and works on Windows 7 and Vista
