Re: FAT32? i got exFAT?

Short answer for your situation. No

All external drives have to be FAT32 format, nothing else works, and FAT32 has a file size limit of 4GB.

You'll either have to re-convert your large files into a smaller size or split them into 2.

FAT32 formatting of external HDD on WDWs 7

I have a portable 250GB HDD that only uses power from a USB to mini USB lead (PS3 pad cable).

It was formatted as NTFS previously and was invisible to a PS3.

I have formatted it to FAT32 using a free program called 2Tware Fat32Format 1.12 downloaded from http://www.2tware.com/product/8/2tware+fat32format

It installed in under 2 mins and formatted my portable HDD in seconds without any problems.

I put a movie on it and connected it to the PS3 via the front USB ports and was able to select the USB HDD via the Video menu and played the movie.  Perfect!

I hope this information is useful :smileyhappy:

Re: FAT32? i got exFAT? -- SOLUTION FOUND

I got WD My Passport 1TB HD and like many others, i also could find a way to convert to FAT32 until i found this link that converts the entire 1TB HD to FAT32 in about 30 seconds or so. Here is the link folks. I just tried it myself about five minutes ago and it worked like a charm.  My apologies if the link is inactive, but as of Oct 8th, 2012 it is active.

Click on the link -- then the picture you see and in 30 seconds or less, your 1TB HD will convert to FAT32 and you can hook it up to your PS3. cheers.

After wasting (literally) hours trying to do it through dos, I downloaded this and it was formatted in under a minute.
