Is anyone other than the absolutely die-hard going to pay a monthly fee to play an MMORPG on a console anyway?

As of August 14, 2006 the Xbox 360 version was the sixth most played game on Xbox Live

Sorry your right.... hardly anyone played FFXI especially as you had to pay for it....

You're not getting the point. That still doesn't tell you a single thing about how many people were playing it.

That date (rather conveniently) is around the game's release date when people were still using their free month's trial. Come back and tell me how many people were playing it during the release period, and how many people renewed their subscription when they had to cough up more money, or quote me the like-for-like figures one year on. I bet the renewal rate was less than 25% for the first month, probably dropping to less than 5% after a year.

Re: FFXIV MMO... Wont have EXP points or levelling!

Why do you actually give a monkeys how many people used it?

And if you were actually interested... try google.

You would find out the renewal rate didnt drop to 5% lol

Why are you trying to make it sound like a complete flop?

It has something like 2 million active players at any given time?

And 500,000 strong user base.

WoW is like the wii... a commercial bandwagon, just because loads of people are using it doesn't make it any good?

If you like MMOs, then try reading abit about this FFXIV mmo, its actually trying to do something different.

FFXI didnt flop on the PS2 or 360, so i cant see why this would, if it was only based on paying a subscription.

If you jump into the game world... its not gonna be short of players, so who cares about WoW

Interesting, it has been a while since such a system has been adopted and to be honest it could offer a wider variety of character builds in the game.

I'm sure this game will be a massive, long-lasting success; trumped only by WoW (which doesn't count because I don't like it)

Is that better?

Your almost argueing with yourself?

Your the one that came into the thread and started on about WoW?

As soon as I try explaining FFXI wasnt this mass comercial flop you envisage you give that post?

People like you are make me tire of the internet forums

I often find it far more inteligable than arguing with other people. This thread being a perfect example of that fact.

You can try explaining all you want, but the "facts" you quote make no reference to the number of people playing it, or the length of time their subscription was retained for; which is the determining factor in the success or failure of an MMORPG.

Pay-to-play MMORPG's don't work on consoles. It's not the right platform.

What you seem to be forgetting though...

Is that you have no facts or references at all?!

Iv actually used facts that are easily checkable through the magic of google.

You have sat there and simply gave an opinion?

See what I mean about tiring of forums??
