Re: Fan test

I dont think occasional cleaning will do any harm.   It's only available in Slim, and fat 40GB/80GB models (not the 60GB model)

Re: Fan test

Well there's 2 different kinds of fan tests i've heard about

1. Turning the PS3 upside and essentially overheating the console so it kicks the fans into high speed <<Dangerous fan test

2. Turning off the console completely by the switch, then turning on the back switch whilst holding the eject button<<Good fan test that gets rid of dust from the console

I don't think it's available in the slim ps3's but it definitely should be

Isn't that because there's no power switch at the back of the console?

It sounds like Sony don't really want people to use the "fan test" function if you have to do that! If it was safe surely they would have made it more obvious. I can't imagine Sony would advise doing that in the manual =s

But if they intended it to be used surely they would have included it in the xmb settings... perhaps even on a timed schedule where you could choose how often it performs the fan test. Also no mention of it in the manual either if I remember correctly.

Personally, I think it's only there so they can check the fans are functioning when the machines are built?

Has there been any official word from Mr Buster or his colleagues?

Re: Fan test

I have had my PS3 for about 3 years. It is a fat 40GB PS3 and I have never had to do a fan test, and I am on the PS3 4-5 hours without turning it off usually. Does this mean I should do a fan test now?
