Re: Fan test

There is nothing to say that you "should" run the fan test. I personally had/have a 60gb console so don't have to choice to do it, if i did have that choice i would probably do it every month or so and wouldn't be too worried if i forgot to do it a few times.

You've probably already figured this out, so they'll be little point mentioning it....Turn the ps3 off by the switch and back on.

That was obvious *sigh

Re: Fan test

I reckon that the only time anyone should do is when your console is dead (YLOD) and there is a disk stuck inside. No harm can be done to a broken console

Actually yes i can

Taken directly from the PS3 Instruction Manual

Source - http://uk.playstation.com/media/2Pv7AFEC/CECH-2102B_2103B-3.20_UKANZ%5BEN%5D.pdf

Vents

When dust accumulates in the system vents, remove the dust with a low-powered vacuum cleaner.

The disc cannot be removed.

Press the eject button for 10 seconds or longer to force the disc to eject. After removing and before reinserting a disc into the system, turn off the system, and then turn on the system again to resume use.

And In closing :-

12. You may not claim under this Guarantee when the Product is damaged as a
result of:

i. commercial use, accident, fair wear and tear, negligence, abuse, or misuse
(including, without limitation, failure to use this Product for its normal
purpose and/or in accordance with instructions on proper use and
maintenance
, or installation or use in a manner inconsistent with applicable
local technical or safety standards);

Think that about covers sony's stance on it. The "Fan Test" is actually a last attempt disc eject system which is designed to force the system to eject the disc. Not to be used to clean out the fans so therefore not in accordance with your PS3 Manual therefore not covered by your warrenty

Re: Fan test

So actualy what you say is if it isn't in the manual(I knew it already) so it is not recommended but if I don;t see a clear statement of Sony says "the fan test function is not recommended" I think it doesn't says it is not recommended and by the way  I am afraid to use vacuum cleaner to clean the PS3 because it can tear some components of the ps3

Re: Fan test

Sony will not state that the "fan test is not recommended" because it is a "DISC EJECT" They state in the instruction manual how to clean out the fan and suggest a low powered vacuum for information on what they consider "low powered" you'd need to speak with sony directly.
