Better make that a decade.  Hasnt this already been on the table for them that long already?

If I had have held my breath the first time I heard of this, my bones would have turned to dust by now.

Face it, the govt do enough to get reelected, but not enough to facilitate change.

Funny that huh? :smileytongue: Spineless pricks, one day it'll happen...

Re: Federal Government to introduce R18+ rating for video games despite state opposition

One messed up thing is games that have been classified as RC can't be resubmitted when/if there is an R18+ (e.g. Mortal Kombat). I hope no more games gets RC before we get R18+.

What absolute crap that games that have been classified as RC can't be resubmitted when/if there is an R18+ They should be able to resubmit the games when R18+ is implemented.

Re: Federal Government to introduce R18+ rating for video games despite state opposition

I think it'll be more a case of them not going out of their way to classify games that are currently RC. If they want to try to get an R18 classification for their game (once the R18 is actually in play), the company in question would have to resubmit their game for reclassification themselves.

This.

Chances are, the governments do not provide the classification service for free. It's a convenient little fundraiser for them, make the law that states that no game shall be sold in the retail market unless it carries an official rating, then charge the publishers to submit the game.

In other words, it isn't that games cannot be re-submitted - look at Left 4 Dead 2, the most famous example, where they were denied, changed the game making it cleaner than a bar of soap and got away with an MA15+ classification. No, as Silver wrote, they provide a service and they aren't going to provide it for free.

In regards to the article, removing the MA15+ rating is wrong... imo more games should be MA than R18. As I've said before, R18+ is for games like GTA with excessive violence, sex and profanity. Call of Duty I would still rate as MA15+ in spite of some of the more gruesome scenes in the past three games (although MW2 should be R18+ for No Russian). Borderline games include something like Red Dead Redemption
