Fight Night Champion

Im a big fan of the Fight Night series but after downloading the demo i find myself dissapointed! Mainly because of the new "EA total punch control rubbish" they have slapped on, instead of gesturing with the right analog to say throw a roght hook, or an uppercut like in the old Fight Night games, you now just jam the analog in a direction and it throws the punch! they may as well of just left the punches mapped to the buttons.

The only reason i enjoyed Fight Night in the first place was because it took a level of skill to be able to beat a friend or the computer, with well timed jabs, following up with straits and hooks, or dodging and weaving then countering with an uppercut! But now with the new control scheme it seems its become nothing more than a button basher, who anyone is going to just be able to pick up and bash their way through the game!

Does anyone else find this? and do you know wether EA are going to do the decent thing and allow fans of the old punch controls to switch to that?

Re: Fight Night Champion

Thats what it is like online. People throwing the same punch time after time button bashing.
The last Fight Night was exactly like that. I'm pretty sure this will be the same now they have changed the punch controls.
I do like the career mode though.
May rent it.

Re: Fight Night Champion

I think it's a case of attracting a bigger fanbase.
The past Fight Nights have, as you said, involved a tricky control system, that takes time to master.
If you learn it, you get rewards by being accomplished at the game.
Trouble is, I think it lost them a lot of fans straight off the bat. Gamers are fickle, a lot play the demos and go....was too hard, I got whooped and couldn't throw right punches.
The new demo is pretty damn easy. I even looked good at it! (Tyson still beat me though)
From a shallow P.O.V, I liked it as it means it is an easier game for me to pick up, play with a few mates and have some good battles. I bought last years and enjoyed it upto a point, then I lost interest. I'm more excited about this years edition.
For those who want to invest time in it, I imagine the new system will leave them wanting.
Trouble is, as I mentioned before, it's all about sales and more and more is about online gaming and accessible to groups. Easier it is to pick up and beat your mate, more likely people are to buy it.

Re: Fight Night Champion

When i first downloaded it i hadn't read or seen that they'd changed the total punch control layout so i went into my first fight still using my FNR4 style and wondered why i kept throwing extra punches after trying to throw an uppercut.

It wasnt untill i watched the video on the main menu i realised where i was going wrong. Its definately worse imo cause i'd become fairly decent at putting together good combo's using the old gesture style and haven't quite got comfortable with the new layout.

Quite like the new one punch KO's though, was sweet when i landed my first one after dodging a straight right  to land an over hand right of my own.

Re: Fight Night Champion

Yeah the new control scheme is major step backwards. It's too easy to throw massive combos and the new blocking system is poor. It's such a shame because I've been really looking forward to playing through the new story mode thing, guess I'll just pick it up when it's cheap.

Re: Fight Night Champion

I've enjoyed the past Fight Night games and think I'll be no different with this one even though it has changed.

The new story mode looks awesome to say the least!!

Re: Fight Night Champion

I loved the other fight night games but after playing the demo of the new one I'm tempted to cancel my pre-order :smileysad: gutted
