i don't know the story, but my gut tells me your anger should probably be directed at ea. game would not 'choose'  to not stock it.

Re: GAME, Buying games or Not?

The preowned offers in Gamestation are a lot better than GAME. 2 for £20, 2 for £10 etc. I hope that if GAME go under, someone else will buy Gamestation and keep it going. That's just wishful thinking though

Who ?

there isnt anyone left. HMV are having their own struggles and there isnt another game retailer on the highstreet.

administrators will move in or one of those private equity companies will step in and destroy it.

game should re-strategise, come off the highstreet, and go interweb only.

Re: GAME, Buying games or Not?

I avoid game whenever possible. When they offer you £8 trade in for a game their selling for £30 pre-owned you know their taking the mick.

Plus the price of the vita games made laugh out loud in the shop. I can walk two doors down to argos and get my vita games for between £5 and £10 less. Games specialist my rear.

Re: GAME, Buying games or Not?

Game are such bad value. If other high street companies can sell games for a certain price (baring in mind buying prices) I wonder why Game can't. They must order more stock bringing their buy in price down, so is it just greed that sets their price so high? Or are they in debt?

The days of Game, Blockbuster, HMV and Waterstones are numbered. Either people have such easy access to the net to find it cheaper or you can download/stream the content.

It will be a sad day if they can't restructure and find a way to survive.

Re: GAME, Buying games or Not?

I popped into a Game store yesterday and it was dead. I saw the price of Vita games, laughed and walked out. Sorry, but they are in financial trouble and killing themselves still.

If they keep this up, they probably won't be here for Summer let alone Xmas.

Most of the store was taken up with 2nd hand games, and very little brand new stock. If Game don't change something soon, then we can probably kiss there butts goodbye for good.

Re: GAME, Buying games or Not?

Having worked for a company that went bust / out of business, it's not something I would wish on anyone at shop floor level - they haven't got control over the buying, yet they're the public face of the company and therefore get the roughest deal.

WIth that in mind, I was pleasantly surprised that they were the only place out of HMV, Tesco, Morrisons and Argos that have the Jack & Daxter HD trilogy in stock and the staff were nice, friendly and helpful.

Due to some very poor Business planning and decisions at the top, the shop floor people are now having to deal with the situations and the backlash from not stocking things like Mass Effect 3 etc, whilst probably still having to hit targets that are higher than last year without the stock to do so.

I really don't want to see them go.

Can't disagree with that, but like any business, the Managers and Top Brass will only ever think about themselves and never what actually makes the business what it is, which is the front line staff.

Without those people, there is no business, when it comes to a company like Game.

Re: GAME, Buying games or Not?

Some of this is very unfair, and quite a few of the High Street Stores are in trouble. Games at Game are over priced compared to a) Supermarkets, who decide to make no profit, and if you take the FIFA 12 deals, and COD deals, actually sell at a loss for the company but drive customers into their stores in the hope they do some shopping, and b) online stores, who dont have the over heads that a shop has (increased staff, rent, council tax etc).

Game, and other High Street Stores have to try and make a profit on the stuff they sell, hence the high price. The fact is, and its just a matter of time, these places cant exsist anymore and will soon out of buisness. HMV only make money from the new hardware parts of their business (Headphones, phone accessories etc)

Game basically approached the industry with "This is how we can survive" and no one really cares. The big companies will want us just going through them, Origin, Steam, PSN and Xbox Live as the profits go straight to themselves. The Mass Effect piece is just Game saying we will make a loss on the game, or not make any money therefore we wont stock it.

Its a matter of time, and it will be sad, but I cant remember the last time I wanted to buy something in Game due to the price.......... its a horrible cycle, but its they way things are.

There may be a few more Starbucks/Costas popping up in the high streets too
