Re: GAME on their arse...

Wrathchild, i think ShadowStorm got it pre-owned... 3months warranty is the warranty game/station gave on pre-owned consoles, and Sony dont do warranty on pre-owned, do they? I spoke to a guy in Game about this, and they said information about warranties would be given on the website

looking at that list i am wondering if it is mostly the dual site towns.

Bromley have closed the high street store but it looks like the Glades store is open

Bluewater downstairs is closed but upstairs is open

Orpington is closed but the nugget remains open (not exactly dual site but very close)

as they are currently "in administration"  those bemoaning their loss of reward points still have ample opportunity to spend them as stores are still trading.

"administration" is different from "closure"

for anyone concrened about refunds and warranties either go to a store that is trading or ...

as to staff... i'm gutted for ya but am i being stupid or are you actually still employed and even though your STORE has closed you should be able to transfer to another site or take redundancy. Your not suddenly unemployed.you may not be paid or wil have payments deferred till a later date but TUPE and various employment laws protect you under these circumstances.

As the company is still trading as a going concern staff will be paid this week and yes you are correct in thinking that role's could in essence be TUPE'd to another branch if another buyer is found and if they choose to keep the stores open. No redundancy payments will be due due to administration and to be honest they staff are lucky to be paid this weekend at all as most insolvency practiioners will not allow this but as its a going concern they have to really.

Top and bottom of this is if you work for the Game Group you shoudl be looking for another job already even if your store is still open as your just delaying the inevitable

Re: GAME on their arse...

tupe applies when your transferred to another business. redundancy will apply if your site of work is transferred internally.

in bluewater and various other sites there is little hardship to simply work a few buildings over :/ but if your site is moved forking miles then I understand your gripes.

i'm sure staffing issues will be dealt with internally and the issue of pay will eventually be sorted but the OMG attitude of the media and various people saying they are suddenly unemployed I take umbrage with. Administration must be hard on the staff but in all honesty this pails in significance to some of the recent bushiness' going under which has affected entire communities.

retail sucks (been there, done that.) but a good retail worker will drop into another job and succeed quite quickly. Its a hard position to be in for the staff but if any of you guys decide to quit and move on then you may lose out on redundancy or even your job should the business be sold or continue trading in a reduced capacity.

Wowsers! Having just made 2000 people redundant, apparently they will be out of admin. by the end of the week. Reading between the lines looks like whoever made the decisions just wanted a legit way of shedding staff wages... RBS and the board of Game Group should be answering a few questions methinks..

277 store closures with approx 2k staff employed at those locations DOESNT mean they actually made 2k people redundant.

Redundancy for some or Redundancy for everyone ?   if it was your choice; which would you prefer ?

Its the job of the administrators to make the company as buyable as possible so that it can be saved.  They liquidise what they can and cut the fat where needed.  Cashflow needed to be generated to pay the creditors.

As it transpires, they appear to have saved Games ass.  Multiple sites and fragmentation are just 2 of the complaints continually mentioned about them.  That has been resolved.

I hope they learn from this exp[erience and drive the buisness forward.  The high street is dead this is most likely a postponment of the enevitable.

all bromley game/gamestation stores will be closed including the only gamestation shop in orpington, it means i will have to travel all the way to blockbusters in orpington to buy any games now a real pain, the bus journey is nearly 1 hour :smileysad:

Is game in Lewisham still open? It might be a bit quicker for you. is it really an hour on the bus from bromley to Orpington? Takes 5 minutes in the car. :smileyvery-happy:
