Games hit a new low

[ Edited ]

A Spokes-person told BBC News that Video games have hit their all time low this year, with sales dropping 34% over the course of January. There was also a 38% reduction in console sales; due largely to the fact there are no new major titles until March when Mass Effect 3 reaches our shores. But it won't be until later this year when sales could bump up due to these games (The Last Of Us, Resident Evil 6 and Tomb Raider) and with them, the anticipated handheld... PlayStation Vita.

Guys I think it's time to go shopping... :smileyhappy:

EDIT: I hate the fact they blame everything on the economy, The developers have got to make better games that are appealing and stand out and I'm positively sure people will be camped out wanting to buy a PSV when it's launched.

Re: Games hit a new low

I would say a lot of people just don't have the money nowadays. I know myself I've stopped buying because they are to expensive and quite a few titles that have been released in last 12 months were a big disappointment to me, Resistance 3 and Socom 4.

I will now wait until they come right down in the price or if they are just single player I will pick them up pre-owned from an independent retailer near me who is far cheaper than the main stores.

Re: Games hit a new low

Users have stopped buying the junk titles that in the past would have propped up the sales chart.

Bet if they had done the report fully they would have been nice to see the RENTAL market share due to the price War with Amazon Vs Blockbuster in UK and others in the US doing the same.

In UK the Advert is there on store and XMB.

There were lots of games that were never going to sell at full price and even more that won't sell even at platinum price point when their replay value does not exist...

Re: Games hit a new low

Lol sales were down purely because there was no new games coming out. Tie that in with the fact that a lot of people are short on cash throughout January and I think you have your answer.

Sales always take a nose dive in january most people's bank balances are still recovering from christmas because they're spending money on other none essentials like food, mortgage/rent and utility bills.
