Re: HDD INSTALL PETITION- sign

Mako, its with a k. Thanks.

Bit of guidance? where?

When it comes down to it, if you want to do the full install onto the console - you've got 2 chances. Buckleys and none.
The way they currently have it prevents piracy, it allows for more usage and you get more value out of the HDD.

Microsoft load the full game, but due to their lackluster console and its ability to read discs - it is stuck on a lonley 8.5GB...
You get a blueray disc and it is vastly bigger.

If Microsoft is so for the win, why are you on the Sony Playstation forums? O.o Why aren't you chilling with the "Cool kids"

Re: HDD INSTALL PETITION- sign

I have purchase BF3 online through the psn...if this " chattering noise you mentioned is not the disc spinning, but the console reading and writing to the HDD" why has the noise stopped when i play bf3 from my online purchase when no disc is needed.....but when my friends disc is put in you can hear the disc noise from a mile away.........i smell a troll

Re: HDD INSTALL PETITION- sign

The main problem with it is it brings up piracy issues. What would stop someone buying the game on a disc, installing it & then selling it? if it's on the PS Store, buy & download it from there, that's the only way i can see around piracy & to install it onto the hdd. I think what part installs are the way to go, then the disc will still be needed to play the game.

The point isn't to have a full install option, though.

Partial install of game data, STILL REQUIRING THE DISC TO PLAY.

That was already pretty clearly stated in the OP.

I dislike when games have huge (5GB+) compulsory installs, because I'm working with a 60GB PS3, but I'm strongly supportive of optional installation to speed up load times. Armored Core For Answer did it - you could play the game with basic data installed, took about 500MB, but there was an additional 2GB install option that shortened loading times and made some of the more complex scenes run smoother.

Re: HDD INSTALL PETITION- sign

I agree with the few here that say I do not see why this is not possible?

Its not like the ps3 is hack free anymore, I know of people that have done this with cfw or the usb dongle.

And this will not increase piracy any more than that as already stated, xbox has done it right and made it so files are left out so the disc is still needed to play the game, it just isnt used after start up.

Yes the ps3 has blu-ray discs and can get up to some massive sizes, but a majority of the multi platform games do not surpass the dual layer size and I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I bought a 500gb hardrive for a reason. Even if the game is a 50gb install, I would rather install it and then delete it when im done, its not a permanent mark on space.

Not only that, it will save on wear and tear of my ps3 AND no massive wait times. Ive played Dragon age on both consoles, and yes the ps3 has a massive install, but it is nothing compared to the minimal load times the xbox has after a full install.

hello, please if this could be looked into, i own a few games (MW3 etc) that read the disc constantly during game play. this chattering noise is constant - my last system was a 250 gig that after many hours spent playing MW my ps3 stopped reading disc's. why.....lense failure..... if, like other systems there was an option for a partial HDD install where you still needed the disc to start the game but the disc was not read during game play rather obtaining info from the HDD- this would make for faster downloads etc...and save or prolong the life of the lense and ps3...... i now own a 320 gig and when i hear that noise it brings a tear to my eye..

if you think this is a good idea please sign.

In all seriousness, vote with your wallet. Time to buy an xbox 360. You can install ALL their games onto hard drives. Picked up a xbox 4gb for $150 + 320gb hdd for about $98 at ozgameshop.com. Came to about $248 for the system.

The only problem is, you have to pay for xbox live if you want to play games online with other people.

A 12+2 month will set you back around $50 at ozgameshop but you do get quality online service. ie Downloading patches is fast compared to 24hrs for GT5 patches from scratch. Who in the hell would put their customers on hold for 24 hrs to play a game? Oh wait, Sony does.

That said, I still play on PS3, mainly cause my friend doesn't have an xbox :smileysad:
