i have a 100% signal strength as the routers about 3-4m away from the ps3 and a nat type 2...which is moderate if im correct...i dont want to go nat type 1 because i heard its not safe..and 3 is too limited as you might know.
and yes im considering going wired...thanks for your help.
At that distance I'm surprised you have never even thought about trying a wired connection.
My router is oposite end of the house so I bought homeplugs - best thing I ever did going wired.
DMZ is not recommended on a PC, but I've been DMZ all the time I've owned my console and never had a problem.

So... yes all of the above
->Use a wired connection (homeplugs if needbe)
->Put your PS3 in the DMZ (not a security concern for the PS3)
->Enable UPnP
Everything should be good after this.

UPnP will add and remove port mapping automatically. DMZ (demilitarized zone) will take the ps3 and place it outside the firewall.
So with UPnP you will have some protection against people trying to hack, DoS Attack, IP spoofing, ect, but with DMZ it means no protection ( i could be wrong but i think that's how it works )
So IMO if the OP is now going from Wireless to Wired and as long as he has UPnP turned on and can see nat type 2 he shouldn't really need to place the PS3 in DMZ? OP try this first and if all fails then try DMZ?

UPnP is fine if your routers good at running the function some routers struggle. Especially opening all the ports required for example PSN and an EA game all at once.
If a couple of the EA ports were not triggered open or kept dropping you would have problems.
DMZ would just resolve the issue where relying on UPnP alone can let you down at times.
DOS attacks are very unlikely because they would have to pass through PSN itself touch wood after last years fiasco Sony are on the ball with this.

True wired will resolve the majority of connection issues i remember my first ISP supplied router UPnP function being useless wired or wireless.
With my current router i just went straight for DMZ i have always used wired since i ditched Wifi the benefits outweighed it overall.
It's also worth checking your routers firmware is up-to-date even with DMZ i had problems on few games until a recent update from Netgear. The update made a massive difference i had to mess about toggling enscapulation and DSL settings to get some games to work properly.
