I am running out of space on my hard drive... I did a check and it appears I'm missing some space. I don't want to format my hard drive apparently there's a way to rebuild your hard drive from the menu. Not the normal one but the start up thing. How do you access it is my question? I remember it coming in an update but that's about it.

Is the space you're missing 6.9% of the space that you should have? ie if you should have a 40GB HDD you actually have 37.3GB, 60GB is actually 55.9GB, 80GB is actually 74.5GB. If it is that's perfectly normal, it's to do with OSs measuring in binary and HDD manufacturers measuring in decimal.
Firstly do what i did and delete any old game data/patches of games you don't play anymore. I did this the other day as well as a few demos and old game saves that i will never need again and freed up 16GB 
I was so shocked and couldn't work out where my 40GBs had vanished too.
