..if they did employ people like that - which they don't. They would have seen and known on beforehand that the method didn't lead anywhere. But, what happened was that they fired the guy maintaining the linux project, and said that linux was a security problem with the box. In other words, corporate paranoia and publisher relations made the decision - as usual. Sony is simply a business - and if their shareholders and partners say that the Ps3 isn't profiled the right way as a junk-box for selling on wall-mart, then Sony will change that by ***** off it's fanbase. Just like if the games they wanted to profile the console on don't get good press from console mags - then they take cues from Neogaf to fix. And just like they will remove ps2 compatibility, because the fanboys want to play new games, just like Sony's press office and marketing department wants to believe. Really, this always works to Sony's benefit - so why not continue in the same way until they are directly competing with each and every customer on the xbox, and have to start buying up exclusive titles to keep them? Obviously, that too would be great business.

ok im ***** at sony AND geohot but more so at sony for stealing from me cause my system nolonger does what it did whin i bought it and yes the other os is something that they threw out there as a selling point they just wont admit to it but anyway i bet some of you are asking how is it that i see it as steeling from sony well thay took my back up computer for whin my main one went down "and it has" and because sony asked for there system to be hacked by saying that it was unhackable to me that just screams chalenge to hackers but that dont give geohot the right to go public with the info on how to do it and thats why sony took it away so geohot in a way also stole from me but the first one to give me back my other os so i can use it AS IT WAS MENT TO BE gets me standing behind them and i HOPE its sony

chill out bout gehotz dude... its been proven months ago that geohotz didnt do squatt hacking... it was all just a big crappy scam, u can even watch that on his twitter all he could achieve was dubious method of hacking the console to enable gpu in linux which it actually was unproven, most likely fake cause he claimed it didnt work cause he didnt have the drivers for the gpu when the funny thing is gpu ps3 drivers were available since the gpu disable patch.

Sony just used that poor excuse to remove the feature from ps3 fat too as they did to ps3 slims... most likely cause ppl were interested more in ps3 fats than ps3 slims.
Geohotz claims he also made a custom firmware, which turns out to be another scam as nothing else than a video showing hello geohotz is released.

So if theres anyone to blame is Sony dishonorable decision

thats gotta b the biggest heap of rubbish i've ever heard (and i've been married 15yrs!!!)

unlike most, i DIDNT buy my (launch) ps3 4 the games, i bought it 4 2 reasons...

1) it was $100 cheaper then a bluray player

2) i could use it as a computer (which i didnt have at the time)

when 1 of my kids decided to do me a 'favour' and run the update i almost cried, many of my family pics and movies were stored on the machine and are now gone (presumably) 4ever.

thanx heaps sony, i think i'll go back to my old xbox

I don't see the logic your post, you did not buy the machine for playing games, yet now its lost the otherOS your heading back to a machine that does not have BR, and only plays games, something you did not buy a PS3 for....
