Hitman being dumbed down?

Now I'm not usually one to jump on the bandwagon moaning about a game being dumbed down, I like options and changes in approach at times but in the new hitman game they're apparently gonna take away the map because it "interrupts gameplay" and they're gonna allow you to look through walls.

Apprently the looking through walls isn't present in the higher difficulty/s but then I assume I won't have a map to assist me in any manor?

I don't see why they can't just integrate a map more seamlessly, fast, low latency access, don't have it fill the whole screen, make it clear and simple.

The cover system could work either way but I'm hopeful it will just aid stealth more rather than just action.

They call it "Instinct", I call it a bit silly. Seeing through walls just doesn't seem like the right fit for Hitman.

I love this series and I'm hoping Kane & Lynch isn't a sign of things to come... :smileysad:

I'm also worried about colour scheme, when it isn't suited to the parcticular game I hate it when it's just drab, dull greys everywhere and what we've seen so far looks to potentially be just that. I'm not jumping to any conclusions as we've seen only a little bit. I just hope it retains some of the variety in colour that the other games had.

Re: Hitman being dumbed down?

Well, i will certainly be turning off the Xray vision... Although wasnt the map essentially that anyway? You could see where all enemies were and what they were doing on the map anyway :smileyvery-happy:.

Im hoping for more of a pre planning aspect, like I have to plan my route and course of attck in the breifing, then just have my wits and the environment when im in game.

The one thing I have always thought hitman was missing was a decent melee system, a cover system would be ok if it was not intrusive... Something like what was in Splinter cell double agent, that could be used for cool corner takedowns and the like... But not something that is essential for gameplay as in SOCOM.

Re: Hitman being dumbed down?

I agree the markers on the map from the previous games could be a scalable part of the difficulty system.

But it's nice to have a map in general, I don't wanna see through walls or be pointed in a single direction. I want an overall top down view of the area.

Surely agents, hitmen, spec ops, various people of this nature would have blueprints and maps.

Not having any map prepared seems to go against the very nature of the game. Now I don't mind the idea of improvisation, sometimes it could be set up so that there simply isn't a map available (there wasn't enough time to gather this intel for eg.), but completely throwing it out of the window just doesn't seem right to me.

:smileysad:

And they better keep the tomb raider 3d wheel inventory! :smileymad:

Re: Hitman being dumbed down?

If IO Interactive do get rid of the map, this could cause some problems that consumers wont be happy with. I advice them to keep it, just alter it so it fits nicely with the game.

If they released a disc made out of solid platinum that magically turned everyones PS3 into a PS4 that was 100 times better than any high end PC gaming rig and afforded them free downloads of every game ever made for free that they could store on a 50TB SSD, the Hitman still had a map and was so realistic that you could swear you were not playing a game but were playing a movie, this could cause problems that consumers wont be happy with.

Its just the way it is in the gaming world. You will never make everyone happy.

I'm getting worried that it may end up too easy, and lack any challenge and trail and error that the previous games had.

As long as these are optional I have no issue with them, Hopefully this game will be a bit more dificult if you get into trouble though... Previous gen all you had to do was kill off the 10-20 guards and you could still make the hit. Fairly easily.

Re: Hitman being dumbed down?

Hopefully it will still retain all of the stealth that made the previous games so great, but its not looking good, theres a lot of talk that David Bateson is not returning (the voice of 47)

so Turn 10...you bribe your entire communtity to vote for your game in an internet poll...and you still lose?
