Re: How The Playstation 3 can win the console war

Yet no game on the PS3 takes full advatage of these specs only part advantage. Consoles have advanced now to the point where they can do more than just play games. What the Playstation 3 needs is its original features restored and PS1 and PS2 classics to come back in HD or sequals on the PS3. Look at music, Music 2000 for example you could make your own music but we cant do this on the PS3 why????

And what about the Playstation 4 will we be seeing the same problems like features getting removed, even less games most of the Playstation 1 and 2 Fanbase actually wanted to see?

@Mcneillio why should people have to rebuy ps2 games when they already own them on disc?. They should be able to put the disc in and play it. Its not like people are not buying PS3 games as they are.

Just saying

If people still ps2 most likely they will still have a ps2 so it's not an issue.

Who cares about ps1 & ps2 game fanbase they are old games that are only good for nostalgia as most game don't actually play aswell as you remember them.

Music making games are down to developers to create as no one has must mean there isn't a market for it just because a few liked them on ps1 or ps2 doesn't mean they were popular.

Apart from linux which was done with good reason i can't think of to much that has been removed compared to what has been added.

Sequels of alot of games like the ones you suggested apart from destruction derby which would be good to have a proper updated version are from an era of home computers before pc's.

Which alot of those games were point & click like broken sword & discworld the former being a very dull indeed.

If people do buy a ps4 when it comes out & it has no backwards compatibilty it is simply the price of progression.

Limiting a machine just to cater for older games will make future games suffer in my opinion.

There is no console war. And if there was one Wii would have took the crown already.

Sony are stabbing their loyal family customers in the back - We have 3 PS3s and 3 PSPs all on the same IP address and all registered with Sony. Why can't we use them at the same time anymore?

Re: How The Playstation 3 can win the console war

The backwards compatibility issue does beg the question 'will PSN titles be backwards compatible?' I believe they should be, as the SEN is an eco system such as the likes of iTunes etc. I will be disappointed if games downloaded from the store including psone and ps2 games are non transferable. This has been the deciding factor in not buying a PS Vita. Physical media I completely understand the lack of support for past consoles which is why I have a psone and ps2 boxed up for future use if I wish. As for games, I enjoy picking up the odd game for an older console if I see a deal but the reality is that they ultimately are boxed away along with CD's and DVD's.

Its not limiting the machine though, ps3 is perfectly capable of playing ps2 games while still being innovative it always has been. It annoys me to see ps2 games appearing on the store now, its like they switched off the the capability to run the old discs to make more money out of people paying for them again.

Re: How The Playstation 3 can win the console war

Who would have dreamed that even today PS2 consoles and games are still selling beside the PS3?

Sony wouldn't want to stop the sales of these now would they. This could be a real good reason why PS3 don't support PS2 games from disc anymore ( the way people wanted ) the console to do.

But the console is Backward Compatible as it plays PSone games doesn't it?

Yes it does and thats the strangest thing about it. Notice how the PS1 is a seperate architecture from the Playstation 3 yet the PS3 still has backwards compatability for the games but not for the Playstation 2. It should be noted that the Playstation 2 has full backwards compatability for its previous Playstation Franchise yet the Playstation 3 does not for its Playstation 2 titles.

And sony did promise full backwards compatability at the 2005 E3 conference watch it on Youtube if you dont belive me.

My PS3 is just sitting on the unit doing nothing because most of the games out for it right now dont interest me compared to what the Playstation 2 franchise had to offer. Yes they have some great games but it doesnt appeal to most of the Playstation fanbase.

The PS3 could of been spectacular but sadly to many mistakes made by Sony have caused me to lose faith in them. Im skeptical about getting a Playstation 4 to be honnest as the Playstation 3's loss of features discouraged me from pre ordering one.

Re: How The Playstation 3 can win the console war

Wowsers... I don't think I agree with a single point of the opening post!

For me there are some things that are definitely holding back the ps3 but backwards compatability, other OS, globalising the PSN etc certainly aren't.

I'm more concerned about the inability of multi platform developers as a whole to deliver a comparable product to those that they deliver to the 360. I have both consoles and have played quite a few games on both and the ps3 versions are usually the weakest of the two... check out Skyrim and Mass Effect 3 for recent examples. You can have all the power and 'superiority' that you want but if devs don't use it or can't even deliver an equal product then what's the point?

I gather that they're ditching the cell for the PS4? Good riddance and maybe in the future the developers will produce the game experiences that Sony users deserve.

The current strengths of the PS3 for me is the totally brilliant exclusives that it as. That is why I still love my PS3. Franchises such as Killzone, Uncharted and Resistance are for me very close to my heart and there are loads more out there that people love.

At the end of the day I play games not consoles and will continue to support both consoles whilst they both continue to deliver brilliant games.

When push comes to shove I would say that the PS3 is my favourite of the two consoles probably due to being with Sony since the PS1 but there is no doubt that the 360 does some things a whole lot better and that is what IMO Sony need to address.

Re: How The Playstation 3 can win the console war

Good post Vambo :smileyhappy:

I don't own one but I believe they've addressed some of the issues, specifically network, that the 360 excelled at with Vita so hopefully the next PS will go a step further too.

As for the 'console war', I shrug at thee.
