competition is always better for the consumer.
If there was a winner declared and one console then they would get lazy and probably charge stupid amounts for the console, games and peripherals.
like they already do lol
think how bad it would be if there was only playstation (for example)

So by your logic you are basically saying CrustyJockstrap is a muppet for complaining about what he is via his signature. Crusty has a legitimate complaint as do i. You say i should use a Playstation 2 already have one but there’s one problem
I have a PS3 that can easily do those functions but does not. Why would i want to be limited with memory cards and have to buy new ones when my PS3 has close to unlimited memory cards via the hard drive, why would i want to go back to a corded controller when my PS3 has wireless controllers, why would i need two consoles out cluttering up space when i should only have the one.We live in an age now where one device can do multiple functions.
Adding to this the picture would be a lot better on the PS3 than it would be on a PS2. And my tv does not have a scart port in the back only HDMI ports. Last time i checked the PS2 doesn’t have HDMI.
So what am i supposed to do now? Cant use a PS2 on my HDTV my PS3 which runs on hdmi should support the PS2 games but it doesn’t.
Again this is a legitimate complaint, you say go buy a PS2 when i already have one but why should i go backwards when my PS3 is more advanced and can very easily handle PS2 games? It plays PS1 games which is two generations older than the PS2 but yet it wont Play newer PS2 games?
Explain how there are PS2 games on PSN that run on any PS3 and the data being run of the hard disc but put a Playstation 2 disc in there the exact same game you already bought and it doesn’t run?
And by the way jackdabomb in his YouTube video is 100% bang on the ball. If having PS2 backwards compatibility doesn’t affect you or would cost you anything why be against it?.

No if you actually read what i wrote it was that the amount of consoles were reduced due to muppets game sharing.
How from that do you get i'm calling crusty a muppet.
As far as tv with no scart socket i find that a little hard to believe as every tv i have seen has at least 1 scart socket or av sockets which a ps2 will plug into when you take the little scart adapter off.
With ps2 games on the store it's more likely that the drive was altered so it can't read ps2 games.
As the fact the ps3 doesn't play ps2 disks get over it or if your that bothered get yourself a 60gig chill & have a coke & be happy.

I have a PS3 that can easily do those functions but does notI can't easily as that function is not their. Why would i want to be limited with memory cards and have to buy new ones when my PS3 has close to unlimited memory cards You can back up your memory card to PC or PS3 if you have the right add on via the hard drive, why would i want to go back to a corded controller when my PS3 has wireless controllers, dose the same job why would i need two consoles out cluttering up space when i should only have the one.We live in an age now where one device can do multiple functions. I agree but no the PS3 won't play ps2 games any more
Adding to this the picture would be a lot better on the PS3 than it would be on a PS2. And my tv does not have a scart port in the back only HDMI ports. Last time i checked the PS2 doesn’t have HDMI. No but you can get and use composite HD cables and use them
So what am i supposed to do now? Cant use a PS2 on my HDTV you can with the right leads http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/200703483636?var=lv
<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&adtype=pla my PS3 which runs on hdmi should support the PS2 games but it doesn’t.

Here’s how.
Sony just need to give the PS3 something it SHOULD have, it being a Playstation >>3<<, not a Playstation 1.5.
The Playstation 2 came out, with Playstation 1 compatibility. Had a PS1 game you wanted to play? No problem? Put it in the PS2s drive, use a Dualshock 2, and enjoy. The PS3 takes things to a whole new level. Want to play a PS2/1 game? Do the same thing, except here you have the luxury of those games being displayed via HDMI on an HD TV (yes, while it doesn't turn it into an HD game, it cleans it up a bit; but that's not my point), it reduces clutter, opens up space.
Why would i have to pull out my old PS2 to play PS2 games when , ideally, and , through common sense, you'd think your Playstation (3) ; the number that comes after "2" could play those games; it being the superior machine. Why would i have to go and get my Nintendo Gamecube, when i could just play Gamecube games on my Wii? Nintendo seem to be able to do it? Why not Sony? Also, in the first half of this thread, i remember reading a post where someone mentioned Playstation 2 games still being produced (which is very evident, i still see them everywhere, brand new.)
You know what my answer is? GREAT!? I can just CONTINUE buying Playstation 2 games so i can go and enjoy them on my Playstation th-...Oh, wait...
Producing Playstation 2 games... While re-releasing, and practically forcing people to re-purchase their Playstation 2 games in digital HD format...? That makes about as much sense as eating soup with a FREAKIN' FORK!
Why do that if you have backwards compatibility!? Those games are old, easily acquired, and are in an abundance. Of course, it's all about the money...Well you know what?! I GUARANTEE that more money will be generated by THIS method, then the clumbsy, SLOW (i don't have to look at numbers; Seriously, how many people are going to buy digital versions of these games over the hard-copies; assuming their PS3s had backwards compatibility?) process? Yes, then there would be NO NEED for the digital versions, but basically what im saying is that this method would be much more successful... I don't see why not. There's still PLENTY of Playstation 2 games i would buy for use on my PS3...
On top of that, you're playing on a nice Dualshock 3/SIXAXIS controller, it's wireless, has triggers that travel. Furthermore, practically LIMITLESS virtual memory cards for your PS1/2 games. It's a nice feeling to combine the old with the new, to refresh your old games, and an old experience/product. That's also a plus. Backwards compatibility comes down to the point where it's common sense. Even beyond necessity, or even being essential. I bought my Playstation 3 with the same expectation automatically set in place with the Playstation 2, which delivered.
The Playstation 2 games on PSN are just on a different format/medium. The PS3 can easily have a firmware update which would make it capable of backwards compatibility.
Sony needs to retire the Playstation 2, give every Playstation 3 backwards compatibility, and continue production of software, as is. People WILL buy that software for their Playstation 3s. The software is THERE. The only thing that's missing is our Playstation 3s ability to use it. There is no doubt that there is a market for that software, and lots of people who are willing, as consumers, to spend their money on that software.
I constantly run into people who complain about the PS3s lack of backwards compatibility. Not too long ago, a friend of mine who I game with complained for the same reason.
Sales of Playstation 2 software on a hard copy/disc format will outperform it’s digital format counterpart. Video game consoles pertain to a group of people who prefer to purchase hard copies of their corresponding software. It’s been like that always. This is NOT the PC platform. This is not Valve’s Steam network.
This will work. That is just my input on the Playstation 3s lack of backwards compatibility, and, if enabled on every Playstation 3, what it will more than likely do for Sony.
As for the remaining strategies Sony could employ on this “console war”. Well, I won’t mention them, at least not now/ in the same post, because I’ll probably make a lot of fanboys butt-hurt. However, I have faith in the European gamers...They seem a LITTLE more fanboy-ridden than their North American counterparts. It’s still ridiculous to see these parasites even here, on the EU forums. Fanboys...Sad, so very sad...
