Q: How long should organisations keep data for?
The Data Protection Act says that information should be kept for no longer than is necessary. The Act does not specify what a ‘necessary’ period should be for particular information. Each case would be considered on its own merits. If an organisation is obliged to retain data for a given length of time under any other laws, this should be taken into consideration.
For example, financial institutes may have to keep some information for up to six years in accordance with the Financial Services Authority regulations. A sole trader, however, may not need to keep information for longer than a month.
You should ask sony how long your data will be retained for. If you have purchased anything or have credit card history, you may find that sony need to keep your data stored for as long as required by the credit card companies.
Sony do not need to keep your card details, if anything PCI-DSS requires that they do not hold the card details after a request from a customer.
Sony do not need to hold your address and other information ONLINE - they may need to hold such info offline in case of a fraud enquiry.
I would contact them and ask for the account to be closed, if they refused then I would send a formal written request to their head office citing the data protection act. Sony have no real reason to say no.

did say i could do it, but somebody with enuf skill and knowledge will eventually be able to bypass security and if its " theoretically possible to build a system that can not be broken into" why hasnt it been done then? main word there is THEORETICALLY it works in Theory but has anybody actually made Theory into a pratical working security system...... no because if it was that possible to start with everybody would be making a impenetrable system and we wouldnt have these problems such as hackers, and data been stolen etc
its like this one here
Teen held over cyber attacks targeting US government
a 18 year old teenage from Greece hacked U.S. government and Interpol, and your telling me that its Theoretically possible to create security that can not be hacked, ermmm yeah i think the most powerul country on this earth has the people with the skills and knowledge and the money to make this Theoretical security then why hasnt it been done yet then?
