1). So you are saying if there is a powercut, that your PS3 will die because that's the same as what you've done. Either way if the console can be broken by flipping the power switch, then that is a bad design.
There is a message at the front end of every game with an auto save feature.
It reads:
"Do not switch off your console whilst the HDD indicator is flashing"
Heed it.

Not quite sure what that has to do with anything as nobody said they turned it off while the HDD indicator was flashing. Also, if that's the case, then again - its a bad design. A power cut can occur at any moment of time. Yes you would be very unlucky for it to occur during that space of time, but why create the possibility in the first place?

You go to sleep and so your playstation would have been turned off. Sp your playstation broke from over use? That's not supposed to happen. 3). Your 3rd PS3 is only 9 months old so going strong should be expected. It's the 18 - 24 month mark is the test. You my man are what they call "a softy" ;-)
Muttykins wrote:I have had 3 40 gig ps3's
1st i killed on accident by hard switching off at the back (not fault of the machine)
2nd Blu-ray drive died after 18mths of near 24 hr gaming 7 days a week.
got rid of it because i was to impatient to wait while it got fixed so bought myself 3rd 40gig is 9mths old & still going strong.
So i feel you fail in your point.
1) Yep if you turn your ps3 off before it syncs itself properly it stops working dunno how or why but it does.
2) i go to bed most nights leaving my ps3 on same as i have never turned my pc off in 3 years with exception to when i add new hardware or give it a clean out.
3) my 2nd ps3 lasted around 18 - 20 mths before the blu-ray give out the rest of the ps3 was fine.
And even if my 3rd ps3 does give out i ain't bothered as i was smart enough to buy an extended warranty so i haven't got any complaints or anything to worry about.

The main issue with switching electrical items off, be it a PS3 or a TV (anything that has a ON/OFF swich) is that the switch doesn't have any kind of protection, the act of flicking the switch can cause a minor surge and cause the power supple inside the device to pop, yes its a very unlikely thing to happen, but it can. My old tv didn't have a switch, but when the TV froze (software issue in it i think) i had to pull the plug, that cause a surge/spike and it blew the tv
Personally i now have my PS3 and HDTV plugged into a surge proctector so that if there is a power cut/surge they won't be damaged, and if the are Belkin will replace upto £10000 of kit if the proctector doesn't work ![]()

^ bit harsh.
We don't know what the stats are so saying it's definitely higher than what it is is just speculation and scepticism.
My points are just at the people that blindly allow themselves to be POSSIBLY swindled (I'm not saying they are) with ridiculous excuses for allowing it e.g. I turned off my playstation, therefore it is my own fault - Your £300 playstation broke, so you are a troll. Does my nut in.

Along with 'things/electronics etc break, that's fact. get over it', 'you should have bought a warranty' etc etc. It wasn't so long ago that extended warranties were known for the con that they were, not the recognised solution to overcoming manufacturers shortcomings.
