Internal clock issue has a fix on the US forums

I don't come on here much any more and this has probably already been posted and removed already but here;

http://boardsus.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-3-General/fixed-my-40-gig-cechg01/td-p/45320233

You need to remove the small battery on your mainboard which is what powers your internal clock, its not easy to do without a torx tool and will invalidate your warranty.  However, if like me you've pulled machines apart in the past and your 40Gb is now out of warranty you could give it a go.

Make sure you discharge any static first by keeping your PS3 plugged into your wall socket but switching off the socket before removing the plastic casing then touching any part of the internal metal frame.

I'll be interested to know how this gets fixed via software.

Re: Internal clock issue has a fix on the US forums

Just out of interest, why do you think it'll be fixed tomorrow? If it is as reported an issue with the internal clock, it'll require some sort of intervention and won't simply start working at 00:00:01 on the 2nd. If your clock is currently showing 31/12/1999 then tomorrow it will show 01/01/2000.

If however you mean tomorrow there will be a fix from Sony, then I hope you're right but as I posted originally I would be interested to see how this is fixed in software.

Re: Internal clock issue has a fix on the US forums

the issue is that today doesnt exist according to the ps3's firmware so as soon as the clock strikes 12 all will be well, a fw update will be reuired to fix it in future though.

Not a good idea to be tinkering around inside your console, even MB pointed this out in a thread. You can do some serious damage and I bet that if it ever did go wrong and Sony knew you had been in there they wouldn't repair it.

This sounds a little dangerous. I'd rather wait a little longer than breaking my PS3 forever. For the confident guys, give it a try, there is a very big possibility it will work.

Re: Internal clock issue has a fix on the US forums

It will work as of midnight tonight, the system clock anfd internal clock are different, you can set one but the other you cannot, and it is this one that is tracking the date and screwing things up hence why pulling the NVRAM battery thus reseting it cures the issue...

Re: Internal clock issue has a fix on the US forums

Someone in Australia has already proved that the change from so called 29th Feb to 1st March by the internal clock has NOT fixed the problem.

Re: Internal clock issue has a fix on the US forums

Tried it and now fixed. I'm confident ripping hardware apart so it wasn't a problem, but like I said originally its not that easy and you do need the right tool.
