I currently have a slim 160gb ps3 but always preferred the look of the original ps3 console. The disc access noise of my slim plus whining fan noise really irritates me to the point where I wish I had my old 80GB Fat console again.
If I go down the route of re-buying an order console I am potentially looking at something that was made around 2008/ early 09 in terms of age and hardware which may or may not come with problems of its own. (YLOD ect etc)
so is it worth the risk ? - espcially given the fact they can cost as much pre-owned as new slims currently do
also does anyone have a Fat 160gb machine? What were the noise levels from the fans like in that model?

Yes, I much prefer the overall appearance of the fat. All my other items on the TV stand are glossy, yet I have a nasty matte slim which if I can I'll replace.
My old 80 GB was almost silent, I never had any problem with fan noise, and certainly didn't have the very blu ray drive that my slim seems to have. Overall the fat was/is a much better product in my opinion,
